Ubi has released a new patch to help fix ALOT of the problems in R6V and optimize it. The price of the game has dropped to $19.99..if you like FPS games give it a try. The patch greatly helped my frames per second and made the gameplay smoother. This game is the most intense close quarter combat that you will have on a fps.

They will soon be releasing a map pack that has alot of new maps for free.

Here is a link to the new 1.05 patch. Hope it helps..

R6V 1.05 patch

Hope to see you online!

i borrowed this game, single player is great, but i never bought it bc i heard no one plays online bc it always crashes or runs so bad. with this new patch out, how many people play online now? are there a lot now? when is the map pack coming? i really wish this game was as popular as it is on 360, i dont have a 360 and will buy it just for the online if it gets popular

YES!

was about to completely give up on this game because i thought they dropped support for it and never were going to fix it, this makes me so happy DLing now, havent played it in months, so ill have to re-install, and the new map pack sounds great as well, cant wait. I cant believe they added widescreen officially, never thought it would happen..good job UBI. (cant believe i just said that)

AngelB1ack, thanksfor the heads up. I'm definitely getting this game now that it's only $20. It was still priced at $50 only a couple of weeks ago.

LOL...no. Unreal Tournament 3 will be the most intense close quarter combat you will have on an FPS.

I'm talking about military style modern shooters not sci fi kid games.

Kid games...rofl. Considering it's predecessor is one of the most competitive shooters out ther, if not THEE most. Games like Rainbow Six and Tom Clancy's games are great, but they thrive on campers. Since it's realistic combat, all you must do is camp, and you win. There's ways to kill campers, but if they've already got the jump on you, you're dead. In games like Unreal Tournament, you always have a chance to survive, which takes much more skill to play.

Don't get me wrong UT games are great if you like bouncing of walls and run and gun twitchy luck shots. Sci Fi twitch shooters are not my cup of tea...i'll leave them to fatal1ty. I'm sure when UT3 is released the kids will be out in full force filling up the servers. I'll be playing CoD4 at least with infinity ward you get a great SP and MP experience. Only so many aliens and robots a guy can handle in games lol.

I've seen COD4 multiplayer and it looks as crap/bland and boring as COD2 multiplayer tbh. IMO the king of multiplayer FPS games is still CS and i dunno why but it's just simple and addicting. I'm looking forward to UT3 however i didn't like UT04 much and it was never really that popular and hard to find servers for it in europe atleast.

I'm looking forward to Gears for PC aswel. altho the 360 version was quite pants i have to say multiplayer on the PC will win me over if they add 16 players per map.

No see, in UT, you have hit points. In Call of Duty, you don't. I've been playing the Call of Duty series for years waiting for something better to come out. Infinity Ward heavily displeased me with CoD 2 when it came out, and CoD 4 will be no different. It still looks like a run-gun sprayfest like in the first one. If it's going to be a run-and-gun game, then you shouldn't be able to kill someone in one or two hits every time you want.

Except in CoD 4, you can now shoot through walls! They had a name for that once...I think it was called a wall hack. But they figured...hey! Lets make it apart of the game now! Who knows, CoD 4 isn't finished. It may still kick ass, or it may not. I'm just judging it based on what I've seen of the videos. It looks like CoD 2, just pimped up graphics and it's modern warefare now.

In my personal experience, I've seen more kids on Halo 2 and games like Call of Duty (especially on CoD. There are one too many servers that won't let you use language because there are younger kids that play) than I have on Unreal Tournament 2004. I'm not totally ruling out CoD-type games, I just don't want to see people running around on a map spraying to their hearts content and getting first place easily. That, is clearly not a game that takes skill.

I agree spray and pray games like UT are full of noobs running around the server bouncing off walls going prone ..no clue..but thats what makes the seasoned vets of the game score high. Gotta have new players to keep a game alive in MP and CoD4 will have plenty of fresh meat! :P

Oh well back on topic..

It's impossible to spray-pray in games like Unreal and Halo. First of all, in Unreal Tournament, if you spray-pray like you do in Call of Duty, you will only take minor HP off of your target. In Halo, it's self-explanatory because you have shields in Halo.

In Call of Duty (especially number two), you can spray pray easily with an auto and get a headshot. Why? Because Infinity Ward doesn't know how to make multiplayer games. Single player has always been cinematic and great, but it's multiplayer is just a silly arcade shooter.

God... finally. I bought this game at the full 50. You could imagine my anger!!!! This game had the potential to out go any online FPS if they would have had it perfect to begin with!!!!

Now I'm gonna pop it in now. :)

This patch killed the frame rates on my low end system.

I have been running the single player game just fine on my laptop with patch 1.02 installed and after installing this patch because it said it added wide screen support it's screwed. The only thing that was improved for me is there is no longer a delay when activating the IR goggles. Now everything is jumpy and stalls when moving into open areas. The textures can clearly be seen morphing when you pan and game play is no longer smooth.

If you have a low end system I seriously recommend you think twice about installing this patch unless you absolutely need some of the other features that are supposedly added WIDE SCREEN IS NOT ADDED as it states in the patch notes at least for my system anyway.

Laptop specs are:
T5500 core 2 duo 1.66
2 gb Ram
160 gb HDD
Geforce GO7600 TGT
17" WXGA 1440 x 900 native

The processor is admittedly below spec but game ran fine @ 1024 x 768 with modest settings. Smooth with rare frame hits in large fights with lots of smoke.

Reinstall is not going well and I'm not happy at all.

Well I think I narrowed it down a bit and what I expected is the case. After the patch the processor is getting more work so I'm guessing it's offloading some graphics needs. The GPU is not working any less either way but that is probably because its giving all it's got to start with and a little less stress does not show.

So, if you have a strong processor and/or maybe your lacking a little in the video department the patch might help your frame rates but if the reverse is the true and you're a little weak in the processor (like me) it might actually hurt. I don't play multiplayer and I assume that there are many worthwhile improvements for that as the update notes list many changes. I'm not going to take the time to install it on my desktop SLI rig and test the results.

Anyway, after reinstall errors, deleting everything including directories, reg cleaning, reinstalling and patching up to 1.02 all is back to the way it was. I was not able to get my save to work after the first reinstall so I guess I will look at the bright side and say that since I have to start my single player from scratch I will get more life out of the game. :)

OK, just so we're all clear, there actually is widescreen support added in the patch. I just changedmine to 16:9 ratio, under the resolution options (1600x900). It would be nice if there was 16:10 (1680x1050, which is my monitors native resolution), but never mind. The framerate was pretty much around the same as it was before, everything set to max (QX6700 and SLi 8800 GTX's). Only played it for a couple of minutes, but still a decent patch thus far...
