Swat 4 I think I have ever of that, but a long time ago. It must be an old game to. I will look up some videos now!
I loved the missions that were in banks or in the plane as I mentioned. It was awesome that there were so many possibilites. Sending different squads through different entrances and then yourself going solo. Game ruled and still does.
I used to play Rogue spear urban operations everyday with my friend haha, there was so many maps, it took us 4 years to get tired of it. Its easily my favorite co-op game. 100% agree with you TC
The only BIG downside of all the older RS games is the AI. its really pathetic. I think even vegas/ vegas 2 has the same poor AI that was used in older games
As for games similar to RS, there is swat 3 and 4. I cant think of anything else at the moment
I heard the Operation Flashpoint series was really bad. I'll look up some videos though and check it out.
Isn't Crysis just a First Person Shooter? It doesn't have squads or anything?
Swat 4 looks pretty good. I like how you can arrest people and it's not just bust open the door and guns a blazing. I will have to find this game.

red river isnt out yet reserve judgements on it.. dragon rising isnt a bad game its jsut that everytime people compare it to arma II (released at the same time) they give it such a nightmarishly hard rap. its essentially graw in a giant open sandbox. its controls are a little clumsy and alot of action takes place from long range but its still pretty fun
another good title is urban chaos: riot response on the ps2/xbox its a solid shooter with interesting cover & combat mechanics that games such as r6v 2, cs1.6, and a couple of other titles similar to it still dont have a firm grasp of (fully functioning riot shield, tazer, stun ball grenade, etc.)
GRAW2 ont he PC is a very tactical game, urban environments and a squad to command. Customisable weapons and squad. Its a good but punishing game.
ubisoft has been due for a new rainbow six and ghost recon already... but imo rainbow six 3 was freakn awesome... that was the first pc game i ever played onlineBangerman15
ghost recon: future solider is set for later this year.. imho it looks like a sci-fi socom knock-off or graw 1 rev. 2.0

The AI is probably my only major problem with the R6 games. Between Swat and R6, I always enjoyed playing Swat a bit more since the AI was extremely unpredictable and you never knew what they were going to do. It made the game challenging. Some of the best games ever imo are the older rainbow Six games and the old Ghsot Recon games (with expansion packs).
For me those two were my perfect type of FPS for my needs, ARMA2 is the only modern shooter that fits my need for more Rainbow Six/Ghsot Recon Military fun.

I am gonna ahve to dissagree, Dragon Rising was one of hte worst FPS ive played in 20 + years, just terrible. GRAW was atleast somewhat fun, Dragon Rising was a shore to play for me personally.
Hope they make the next one ALOT better.

Fair enough, but you will nto learn ARMA2 in 15mins bud, takes awhile to learn everything, but once you do its a real treat to play.
Not for everyone though as its got alot to learn and is very tactical.
You know I don't know much about Ghost Recon. I think I played the original on a console years ago. I don't remember liking it very much. But then again I don't like consoles at all.
They are both made by the same company. So what's the difference? Is Ghost Recon just more military like and less close quarters combat?

I personally love the original GR and RS the same, both just amazing. The difference is that Ghsot Recon is more outside,etc.. and Rainbow Six is more Swat team instead of ghost recon outside dudes. Really similair gameplay to me personally, you gotta take your time and use tactics, cant run and gun, just one is outside mostly and one more in doors (:
If you are interested in doing some coop in Ghost Recon sometime let me know, I am playing it again after about 8 year sof not playing it and there are some awesome mods people have made,etc.. Can do coop missions or terrorist hunt online with each other that is fun. Also there are two very godo expansion packs for Ghost Recon 1, I reccomend both (Island Thunder and Desert Seige).
Hope that helps.
for sure I love coop. That's my favourite part of the game.
I do prefer the Rainbow Six style more now that you have explained it. I love infiltrating warhouses, villas, planes, banks, etc. I am sure Ghost Recon is still pretty good though.
There is plenty of infiltration in GR, only it's entirely outdoors (with some urban), military based than counter terrorism, and there is no pre planning, instead it is all done in realtime on a map, and with commands. Though yes the locations really aren't as diverse, but it's excellent coordinating sneak attacks and slipping in and out of areas after perfectly executing plans.for sure I love coop. The SWAT series is much more R6, however that has no pre mission planning either, and it very much about tackling suspects and dealing with a variety of people, than shooting armed guys. The a.i is excellent, and you have to watch how people react - hostages can run off, suspects can pretend to surrender (and pick up weapons) etc. It also has coop which is brilliant to play locally or over vent.
The only thing I can think of that is close to R6/RS is SWAT 4. I really wish that RSE would be allowed to return to developing an R6 game with their engine (instead of like Ubi using the Unreal engine). Yes, R6/RS is set more indoors compared to outdoors like Ghost Recon is.
I don't know if Ground Branch will be explicitly outdoors or have some indoor missions or not. If you haven't heard of Ground Branch before, it is based on the CIA's paramilitary group of the same name. It will be set in Sumatra Indonesia. The maker of the game is the former lead level designer from RSE who did all the levels for R6/EW/RS/UO/COE and GR/DS/IT. It will be unlike any other game from the looks of things. It will redefine the Tac-Sim genre that RSE first defined.

One thing about GR is that some of the levels actually exist.
There has been some talk about having some planning in Ground Branch, but nothing is set in stone except the character animations (captured by using a USAJFKSWCS instructor).
SWAT 4 is the only thing that comes close in my opinion.

Yeah I need to get my hands on this. A lot of sites praise the AI and how replays can be very random. So it might not always be arresting a guy. They could fake and shoot you up.
Gotta get it!

It really is like that. Just yesterday, I was playing the expansion pack. I am stuck on a mission where farmers raid a government building. Anyway, I flashbang this room where there are two suspects and a hostage. We successfully get in the room, and the two suspects drop their weapons, but the hostage keeps stumbling away not dropping. My officers focus on him just for a split second before the suspect a couple of feet away whips out a pistol and shoots myself and another one of my officers. I had another situation where a suspect was held up in a room with a hostage. The problem was he hidden behind a wall and the flashbang didn't touch him. We move in, guy pops out from around a corner on the other side of the room, hits two of my officers, proceeds to run away and then lock the door of the room he is hiding in. The AI in SWAT 4 is really something special. It always keeps you on the edge of your seat since their behavior is all over the place and everytime you play, the enemies are randomly placed throughout the level always making a unique experience.
opfp2: dragon rising
ghost recon: advanced warfighter
opfp3: red river

Noooo. That game's not that great, especially compared to Arma 2. :P
GRAW 2 was a lot of fun
it lacks the premission planning that is a staple of the Rainbow series, but the PC version had an in-mission map where you could set waypoitns for squadmates.
Co-op was a lot of fun too!
