Afternoon all!

Well , some of my stuff has come in for my new build and plan on getting the RAM tomorrow. How is this RAM? It has a good value at 74.99 then with the rebate its 39.99. To be honest though , thats what concerns me. All the RAM I have looked at in this category (800MHz) is at least 20.00 more. Plus , this RAM has LED flashing lights on it. Just a cosmetic thing I'm sure.

A good example is this RAM : Corsair XMS2 DHX Dual Channel 2048MB DDR2 800MHz. Its about 100.00. So what really is the difference? Is it just the name or what? Is it worth it to save 60.00?

As usual , Thanks!

EDIT: Both timings are 4-4-4-12

Both types of ballistix (tracer and non) gets awesome reviews. Its considered the higher quality ram up there like OCZ, Corsair etc etc.

The DDR2 Ballistix is IMO, taking into account price, overclocking and warranty, the best DDR2 there is right now. Lifetime warranty, fairly cheap prices, and still uses D9 chips AFAIK.

Agreed, not only that though. Micron who makes the D9's is/owns Crucial, so I expect you will get the best D9's by getting Crucial.

i bought this RAM and its excellent. the lights look great and they run awesome. i bought them as PC2-8500 1066mhz and my motherboard set them at 800mhz for some reason so i OCed them to 1066mhz with 5-5-5-15 timings (standard PC2-8500 timings) with not problems. i may OC them further but for now i am satisfied. i would highly recommend this RAM

Well, I don't know about getting the best bins but Crucial definitely is one of the best.
I expect other companies pay top dollar for the highest bins but Crucial obviously can run right with them.

Top ICs-
DDR2 700mhz Club
DDR3 1ghz Club

BTW- Crucial Ballistix are D9, nowadays pretty much all D9GMH, and if you put enough volts into them, 2.1-2.25, can almost all do 500-550mhz 5-5-5-15 pretty dang easily.

On a side note, I am dissapointed I never got to play with D9GKX or the fatbodies, D9DQ-.

Just take note that the Tracers runs considerably hotter than the normal Ballistix line. This is due to the LEDs.

And just to say more, the best OCed ram manfucaturer was Patriot Extreme for many reviews i've saw before after Crcuail comes with avery small minor difference. Check Patriot's prices at newegg, they are even cheaper than Crucial if the rebate still valid but check the CAS Latency since theres acouple kits with different prices because of the CAS only.

Too bad Patriot doesn't use Micron D9s anymore.
