hello

im looking to get some new sticks of ram to give my pc a little boost. i currently have two sticks of 1gb each ddr 2 800mhz.

i was wondering firstly is it worth getting ddr 3 assuming it would work with my mobo or just get 2 more sticks of ddr 2 that are 2gb each to make 6GB in total.

my MOBO is a ASUSM2R32-MVP. and the ram i was looking to get was this:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-113-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=

is ddr 3 doesnt work i was looking at two of these :http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/corsair-cgm2x1g800-pc2-6400-ddr2-800-dimm-ram-memory-module-1gb-03753546-pdt.html

thanks for your help in advance

You should just google your motherboard. http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=6609&page=2

You're stuck with DDR2, by the looks of it.

or would just two sticks of 2GB work best. not sure if there is some sort of thing were less works better if you get what i mean

if some one could recomend some my budget is £50 if not ill keep looking

You'll need a 64bit OS or the server version of windows to make use of anything over about 3gb of RAM. Not sure which would setup would have the advantage between those two, the differance would be minimal. Personally i'ld really urge you to get DDR3 and upgrade your motherboard if you can as when ever you next upgrade your mobo and CPU you're going have to scrap that DDR2, though i guess the extra RAM would come in useful for a server.

2X2GB will be better because it will run in dual channel. If you had 2X1GB+2X2GB it wouldn't run in dual channel and would be slower.

You mean Steam? ;) . While I haven't had the experience, as I understand it since your games are tied to your account rather than your computer, it should be a matter of logging into Steam once you've reformatted and take it from there.

Hehe Stream. As long as you know the account name and password, you can re download them once you have Steam back on your HDD, alternatively, you could copy it over to an external drive temporarily while you format, then back onto your fresh HDD to save you re installing everything.

You have to install so the programs can edit the registry and know where everything is

DDr3 ram is not that big of an increase over ddr2 ram.. sorry but it isnt.

No where near the increase from DDR to DDR2.
