So I recently built a computer and ever since I built it I have been getting various BSODs with many being MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. I have been messing around with it and have realized that my computer runs fine with no crashes with either stick in but once I put in both at the same time i get crashes. I also do not think that it's a bad slot because I have tried it in both pairs of slots. What could my problem be? I have two Crucial 1 GB 240 pin DDR2 SDRAM

You might need to increase the voltage on your RAM or loosen the timings. As you add more modules it's harder to keep them stable. I would go into your BIOS, set the timings specified by the manufacturer. Look up the highest voltage supported by your RAM and use that. Sometimes motherboards severely undervolt RAM on auto settings. Once you get it stable, you can start lowering the voltage a little bit until you find the lowest stable voltage. Memtest86+ is a useful tool to check your RAM for stability issues.

Ok thanks any other suggestions? I just think its weird that it works fine with one stick but with two it crashes, I can't figure out what it could be that would make it crash when a second stick is added. And if it helps, the computer can boot most times but crashes at random times after that.

Yeah, I've dealt with this kind of thing before. If at the specified settings they fail Memtest86+ then you probably have a bad module. If not though, the timings and manual voltages should do the trick.

Don't forget some motherboards don't like the RAM in slots 1 and 2, eg; (My gigabyte ep35-ds3p), it needs to be in slot 1 and 3, or 2 and 4. Bad mistake by me when putting ram in, they are even colour coded, i felt really stupid when I found my mistake.

I know its probably not likely but could I have two bad slots on my motherboard which are causing this?

I have run memtest multiple times with no errors and checked the RAM voltages yet I am still getting BSODs with 2GB but with only 1GB I am fine. Does anyone have any new ideas?

If the sticks are checking out okay then you must have a faulty motherboard. Is it still under warranty? My friend bought a board that did this, all the sticks checked out, but the board was failing them.

try increasing the northbridge voltage, that could be the reason it bluescreens with 2 sticks but not 1, i once had an issue where i would get BSODs form 2 sticks in dual channel but not in single channel, it was form NB voltage being too low u could try using PRIME95 to test the RAM stability, i think memtest is mainly to test the RAM for errors, if u run PRIME95 in the mode that uses RAM u should be able to get a BSOD in a few minutes if u still have a RAM voltage issue

Ok I have some bad news. I think you were right about the motherboard being bad Marfoo. I just tried putting one stick of memory into the second slot and after a few minutes I had a BSOD. My motherboard must have two bad memory slots and unfortunately i dont think the motherboard is still under warranty

I'm sorry to hear that, it's a real shame. My friend had similar issues, at first everything was working fine, but then, after a while his system would freeze. So we would Prime95 stress test it and it would fail within the first 5 seconds. We tested all his memory like you've been doing, voltages, timings etc. We pretty much tweaked everything in that BIOS and nothing. He sent in for a new board and the new one worked flawlessly.
