I bought a new 2gb ddr3 ram today and couldnt get it to work. My old 2 gigs are ddr2, can they work together?

Anyways i tried putting the 2gb ddr3 by itself, the computer turns on but wont boot (even tho the small light next to the ram shows the ram is plugged in). I tried my old ram again, the same thing happens, except only one of the ddr2 slots works... so now i am only using 1 gb ram.

What do you think is causing the problem?

You stuffed a DDR3 DIMM into a DDR2 slot. You broke the slot.

Congratulations, you get a Darwin award. You broke your RAM slot, and possibly the DDR3 RAM you bought by shoving it into the slot.

Yea...even my 9 year old cousin was able to tell the difference between ddr2 and ddr3 and insert them right.

do you hear your motherboard beeping like," Bi, Bi, Bi, Bi" periodically? I think it may because that the rams are not stuck in the slots.

what is your motherboard? sounds like you tried to cram ddr3 into a ddr2 board.
