I needed to update my Old Optima Machine because it was so slow.
It would take 10 minutes to boot up all the programs.

I Replaced the Old 2 400MHz DDR2 256mb of Ram for a new stick.
I placed new 533MHz DDR2 2GB of RAM into the system, and my system does not boot up, instead the CPU fan spins once and thats it. No Sound is coming from the HDD or other Components, not even a visual Display.

I put the Old sticks in and left the New stick behind & it would still not boot windows, let along turn it on.

I tried a hardware reset but it still did not fix it.

Not beeps were heard from the Mainboard and no power was disconnected.

Note that this PC is 8 years old and this is its first problem.

Could this be a Hardware failure?

Optima XP
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz
GPU: Intel Family Chipset
RAM: Amicore DDR2 512MB
HDD: Kingston 160GB HDD 3200RPM

The fact that it stopped working when you opened it up tells me that you accidentally unplugged something possibly.

There is a new problem now, the computer does boot up, but there is no display on the PC, we have used intergrated as well as a GPU, but not image is showing. VGA slot is plugged in, but no image is shown.

Is the cord plugged into the pc and the monitor? How do you know that the pc is actually fully booting up? I'm willing to say that it's a ram issue. It's probably not compatible. Will POST display on the screen at all? Try going back to what did work and see if your pc will boot with the old configuration.

Did you put the right stick of RAM in? If you put the wrong DDR type in you might have frazzled the mobo. have you tried resetting the mobo? There is usually two metal pins that stick out that you have to keep in contact for like 10 seconds or something.

Yep,If you have no POST beeps or display you may have accidently biffed your Mobo,Also mobo components hate static,Did you 'ground' yourself when you opened the case and before touching anything?

I agree. Keeping this one alive is like putting someone on life support that is never gonna make it anyway. You might as well buy a new computer. Just because the ram fits, doesn't mean it is compatible with your board. Sometimes ram is faulty as well. Return the ram and put that money toward a new comp.
