I got a new mobo, ram, CPU and GPU in early April, and everything seems to be running great. It has been a huge improvement over my old computer. The thing that baffles me though, is the 4GB of RAM (DDR3 1600) I got only rate as a 5.9 in WEI. My old 4GB DDR2 800 scored about 6.5. I know WEI isn't the best indicator of performance, but this difference confuses me. Any ideas?

That RAM score should be higher - mine is at 7.6 with the same speed RAM.

Are you running it in single channel or something?

Your limiting factor is that you only have 4 GB Ram. Believe that you need 8 GB to get a higher score. Pretty sure that when WEI was implmented in its improved version from Vista to Win 7 you could only get higher than 5.9 for Ram if you had more than 4 GB Ram.

Top score possible is 7.9 in any category. Still there are lots of people and manufactures whining about how the scores are calculated however if your machine is operating up to your expectations then who really cares what a WEI score says...

Could you have possibly not set them properly for Dual Channel?

Edit: My 6 GB DDR3 is underclocked to 1066 and I still get 7.6, not that WEI is a good indicator of anything.

According to CPU-Z it's dual channel. It is only 4 gigs, but like I said, I had the same amount of slower ram on my old computer, and it scored higher in windows 7. I haven't had any real problems, but it just baffles me. I worry that my setup isn't reaching its' full potential. Could it be a (partially) bad stick? How would I test for that?

Windoze just looks at the numbers, it won't be able to tell you whether there is a problem with the RAM, and if there was your system would be unstable and crash a lot. The only thing I can think of is that you may have accidentally installed the 32 bit version of W7 instead of the 64 bit version, meaning the PC is not able to access all of the RAM installed so it thinks there is less RAM than there actually is.

The original purpose of WEI was to make it easier to read system requirements. Software would be marked with "minimum WEI of 3.0", and then you'd know that if you have WEI 4.5 you can run the program. That is all it was ever meant to do. Using it to measure performance is similar to trying to use knife from your silverware drawer as a screwdriver. Sure, you can, but the knife wasn't ever meant to do that, and there are real tools that would do a much better job, since they were designed for it in the first place. And AlligatorAl is right. If your PC performs well and can do what you want it to do, who cares what WEI is saying? (WEI is a moron anyway. A friend of mine was able to raise their SSD WEI score by defragging the SSD... Enough said.)

Go to BIOS check your RAM setting... Select turbo performance or something like that, some BIOS even have EPP and XMP setting

Seems like your friend is more of a moron than WEI.

There's a difference between ignorance and stupidity. ;) In this case the stupidity is that WEI thinks an SSD gets faster if you defrag it. As for my friend, he only did it once, so the SSD wasn't exactly damaged.

I hope you told him not to do that anymore...

I did, and why there's no point in doing it. So since he's not stupid (only ignorant ;) ), he hasn't done it again.
