I have phenom II X2 555 unlocked to x4 denab, G Skill ram 2x 2gb 1600. When I look at gpu-z it says dram is between 666 and 687 mhz. I dont know why it shows such a low number. Does anyone know if this being run in dual channel mode, just reports it as half the true number, or is my settings wrong somewhere?

Don't you mean CPU-Z? Which tab do you have open that's showing those speeds? Is it the "memory" or the "spd" tab? By the way, if it's the memory tab, and your RAM is running at 1600mhz, it will show as 800mhz here. That's because DDR means "double data rate," meaning that the actual clock speed wills show as half the rated speed. If your RAM is running at DDR3-1333mhz speed for some reason, it will show as 667mhz(ish) in this tab.

Lol...me too. Same setup too...almost. I unlock the PII 550, not the 555. I have 4gigs of G.skill rated @ 1333 not 1600. Currently, however, my ram is only running @ 667...just like you. Ideally, I would want it running a little bit faster...but considering I havent had any problems Im not too concerned about it at the moment. Eventually when I pick up a new heat sink (or maybe some water cooling) and some extra fans, and begin to OC my cpu, I'll look into getting my ram running a little quicker....at least 800. If im not mistaken (and I probably am), to get your ram to run at the "rated" speed, you need set the "clocks" appropriately and adjust the "fsb:ram" ratio accordingly. Dont take my word for it though.....

Really??? Makes sense though....what about the clocks? My clocks arent setup according to the manufacturers' recommendations. Big deal? Doesnt really matter? As I said before...havent had any problems.

If your RAM is rated at DDR3-1333, and CPU-Z shows it running at 667mhz, then you don't have a problem at all. That's how DDR (double data rate) RAM works. The actual clock speed detected by CPU-Z is always exactly half what the RAM is effectively running at.

lol.. Yes, really. The timings are a different issue. Although you're not likely to notice a large difference in system performance by making small changes to your RAM timings, if they're running far off their spec'd speeds I'd go into the BIOS and adjust them manually. I had to do this with my RAM. I actually had to switch it to DDR3-1600 mode manually, and set the timings to what they are rated at. For some reason my motherboard didn't detect and/or set them properly. I've read that this is pretty common. It takes like 2 minutes to fix in the BIOS, if that.

Yes, sorry I did mean cpu-z. I used the mem section, as the spd section shows no data on my screen. I havent turned it up to 1600 yet because last time I did my comp said it didnt like the oc and wouldnt let me into windows. I left it at 1333 till I figure out how to utilize the speed it is rated at.

One more quick question bout timings and cpu-z.....On the SPD tab, it shows the "timings table", which has "jedec2...3....4" and the "xmp-1334". Under the "xmp" the timings are right, but under the various "jedec" they're a little off. Big deal or no? Whats the difference between the "jedec" and "xmp"?

I really don't know what the "jedec" section is about. Mine also shows a few different sets of timings and clock speeds. The "xmp" seems to be the rated speeds, although mine aren't 100% right there either. I just checked the manufacturer's clock speed and timing recommendations for my RAM and set it that way. Also had to manually set the voltage since my BIOS doesn't have a regular "1.5v" setting. It has 1.48, 1.53, 1.59, etc... 1.53 gave me full stability at full DDR3-1600 speeds, with the rated timings.

Which motherboard did you end up going with? I know some require manually setting the clock speed, timings, AND RAM voltage to get certain sets of RAM up and running properly. Although truthfully.. with the Phenom II's there's not much difference between running RAM at 1333 and 1600.

Aight aight....thanks for the info. I always thought my ram was running slow, but the double data rate makes sense. They do that for GPUs too. Didnt think about that for the ram....they both use ddr though, so duuuh.

I got this board:

Asus M4N98TD EVO Nforce 980a sli. I dont know why sometimes I cant paste links directly.

Prime 95 tested for 3 hrs at a max temp of 58*c. I dont know much about this, but runs fine as far as I can see.

I dont know what has changed, but I was able to set my ram to 16oo, and change the timing to 7-8-7-24, as per the specs. I am here to type this so I guess it is working, although it took longer to get from blank screen to windows logo while booting. cpu-z mem says 800 now, but spd still shows nothing, why is that?

Yea...mine is stable as well. Ran both the AMD Overdrive Utility and Prime95 with no problems. Prime95 seems to stress the cpu more than AMD Overdrive though... Been running it with all the cores unlocked now for 5 months now and havent had any problems. The only thing I have noticed however, is that it has trouble coming outta sleep mode. Sometimes i get an "unable to enable unleashing mode" message and I have to reboot. Thats only if I put the computer in sleep mode however....and it only happens bout half the time. I dont really use sleep mode anyways, so its all good.

I have heard from a few people that unlocking cores disables the ability to monitor vpu temps, but mine displays temp same as ever. That was a concern that I wouyld overheat it and not even know.
