So a while ago when I first got my pc I made the mistake of mixing 2 different sets of RAM. Needless to say with my luck the good set died and I've been stuck with the crappy set (4GB Single-Channel DDR3@532MHz). I have some spare cash right now and wanted some new RAM probs 8GB but I'm not sure what to go for compatability wise. My MOBO is a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3. I've heard now a days it doesn't really matter but thought I would ask for tips beforehand so I don't make a similar mistake again.

Edit: I'm in the UK so US places might not be much of a help to me.

It really doesn't matter, I wouldn't get anything more than 4gb, but the sweet spot is about 6gb now days. Since you're already at 4gb your not going to notice any difference. If you really want to upgrade then get the same ram, dual channel it. But I'd recommend just sticking with your 4gb.

Grab 2x4GB ram from G.Skill or Corsair. Make sure you don't get the ridiculous high-profile ones with the heatspreaders that may get in the way of a large CPU cooler.

Well I've been fine running a game on one screen and having my desktop on another but I realise I need to have ram better than 532MHz

Gigabyte has a Memory Support List at their website which is about as worthless as every single one I've ever seen. You should be fine with any top-name brand. Get 2X4G. The heat sinks are just for show. The color matters if you have a windowed case and actually care about the look. Timings matter, no matter what anybody says. Tighter RAM timings will give you a couple of fps when you need it most. You might have to go in and manually set the timings in BIOS to the rated timings for the sticks. It looks like the mobo goes up to DDR3 2133, choking anything faster down to that.

Just get 2x 4GB 2133 Mhz DDR3. That would be a nice upgrade.

I recommend 8GB of capacity, and you don't have to worry about RAM compatibility. If your motherboard has DDR3 DIMM slots, just make sure that you buy DDR3 sticks. It's that simple.

Avoid high-profile sticks with stupid heatsinks. These things are unnecessary and limits the room for CPU coolers.
