@r3351925 actually its ok, that card will keep him happy until the next batch of dx10, which you indicate would be around march, though sadly DAAMIT's offering would come at the earliest in may.

PCIE 2.0 will take awhile to really be used to its potential, nobody who has PCIE 1.1 should even worry about falling behind.

very true, heck they haven't been able to max out agp's theoretical maximum bandwidth, so let the early adopters jump on this new tech.

The GPU is often the limiting factor in a gaming system though. I bought a socket 754 system with a PCI-E motherboard two years ago. Now my Athlon 64 2800+ (2.2ghz) and gig of DDR400 might not be top of the line, but if I were to pick up a Radeon x1950pro 256mb for $170 I could throw it into my machine and continue to game for at least another year, and see some huge improvements on my existing games like Oblivion. If I had bought an AGP motherboard, I'd be having a much harder time finding a reasonably price GPU. In fact, I would even argue that I could add another gig of RAM to my system, upgrade to an overclocked Athlon 64 3200+ (maybe push 2.6ghz) and I would have a solid system for DirectX 10 gaming - all I would need is a new GPU in the fall. I could coast on that system until DDR3 RAM is the standard, and socket AM3 mobos / quad-core CPUs are the standard. So... I always suggest getting the newest GPU slot available.

hehe, no i'm not insinuating to stick to old tech. I was just merely saying that the devs haven't squeeze all it can out of agp, of course pci-e would have it easier because the current market focus now is on them, and besides it would be awhile before pci-e 1.1 would be phased out.

Only thing I would say is that you could have waited for an 8600 DirectX10 card, to really take advantage of Vista.
