I could play Arma II with medium and still get 40 fps using Windows 7 and beta Nvidia drivers.

GTA4 benefits GREATLY for a quad core....also the video card is waaay to weak for medium/high. I agree..you need to upgrade your video card first! Its a laptop.
Your laptop can play ANYTHING on medium to high settings. That Intel c2d is powerful, and the video card is also very good. Sure its not the high end of laptop video cards, but its around the mid end. Basically, you can play everything you want on AT LEAST medium settings with 1024*768
