hey guys just got all my parts in but my power supply and i got a question about the power supply which i will list after my specs

so here they are:

-ASUS P5E LGA 775 X38 mobo

-EVGA 8800GT 512MB GPU

-Intel Q6600 2.4Ghz CPU

-Zalman 9500 CPU fan

-2GB(2x1) Crucial Ballistix Tracer RAM PC8500 1066Mhz

-OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU

Now about the PSU... right now im really eager to build this computer but cant since i dont have my PSU in yet but my first custom comp (which im on now) has a 480W Thermaltake butterfly PSU and iw as wondering if that would be ok to use with these parts or should i just wait till tomorrow to get the new OCZ 700W psu? i know it seems impatient but the parts have been sitting in front of me and im just dieing to get this new setup running lol

Change the 8800 GT to a HD3870. You have X38--utilise its CrossFire.

I would recommend waiting for that OCZ PSU.

I don't think 480w would run it. You'd need at least 550-600w I suspect.

nah im a loyal nvidia owner haha and im not going to be SLIing or crossfiring and this board got good reviews and has PCIe 2.0 capability which the 8800GT has as opposed to 16x PCIe. that GT is most likely sort of a gap filler for when the new 9 series releases (hoepfully in Feb. before march 1st when my EVGA 90 day step up expires)

If you weren't going CrossFire, why did you buy X38?

P35 overclocks just as well and the 8800 GT can't even make effective use of PCIe1.1's bandwidth.

becuz it supports PCIe 2.0 instead of 16x which means its transfer rate of information is twice as fast (from what i read, correct me if im wrong lol) plus im not going SLI or crossfire so it really doesnt matter which board i go with. if i was going SLI i would have gotten P35 but since PCIe 2.0 is newer and my GT supports 2.0 (only 8 series card out that does) it i decided why not and just got it.

But cards nowardays, and into the foreseeable future, won't need the extra bandwidth that PCIe2.0 provides over PCIe1.1. Also, P35 doesn't support SLi either. Only NVIDIA nForce SLi chipsets support SLi.

Oh well, maybe you'll get lucky someday and land 2 high end ATi cards?

Anyway, to go back on topic: Wait for the OCZ PSU.
