Time to upgrade my old gaming rig and came up with this configuration. It includes probably the best deals on Newegg, and give me the best performance. Check it out, let me know what you all think. Suggestions are welcome! Also would this beable to run Crysis at medium-high settings? Thanks!

Switch out that GPU for the 9600GT, which is around maybe 30 bucks more. That mobo is pretty bad, and I'd consider shifting some funds around for something a little better. Your CPU is also pretty restrained. But still, great work for only 550$. And for Crysis, you'll be able to run it on low with everything fancy off with your current setup, and it still may be choppy.

CPU will bottleneck the Video card for one. i would NOT go AMD for a gaming rig sorry. C2D is the way to go. And as above poster said, swap that GTS for the 9600 or 8800GT. The 8800GT is only 40 bucks more or so and performs much much better. I am bias in this all. I don't myself like seeing people buying cheap motherboards and cheap components. because you do get what you pay for. With that I would hope for crysis on medium - High at a low rez. the 320mb is NOT enough for crysis at higher rez.

If you invest 50$ more and wait until it's on sale, you can purchase a 8800gts 512mb that will give you the possibility to play Crysis on high. Follow the other instruction with the cpu.

DO NOT GET THE 9600!!! It has almost HALF the stream processors as the 8800 series!!! Don't let any one fool you into thinking next gen is better, now the 9800, that is a step in the right direction. But at almost $600.00 forget it.

I would lean towards the Core 2 Duo and an Intel based MOBO or nVidia based MOBO, and if you go with the latter, you can always upgrade to a second graphics card and run SLI (if the right board is bought).

The AMD CPU's are good if you want a "basic" gaming rig, but they eat almost double the power that their Intel counterparts do.

And if you look you should be able to get a 600 Watt or 650 Watt power supply, the 500 is at the low end for todays rigs.

The memory is good for now.

And the Sound card, well, you could stick with an onboard to start with, since most come with built in 5.1 or better now, yes not as good as SB quality, but you can always upgrade that later.

I compiled a list at NewEgg as well, once they update the public shared lists it will be listed as "Inexpensive Gaming Rig" (I will post the link as soon as it is up).

now it is almost $850, but it is all hardware that will still be usable for a couple of years, or at least upgradable, so don't dismiss it too quickly.

And by all means, substitue where you see fit, this is only something I threw together really quick, but at least you will get the idea.

I've built a few PCs and it has made me a stickler for name brand parts. Mostly Antec and Asus, I've always found Asus mobos and Antec products easier to assemble, and they don't have a cheap feel like MSI products (not sure about BIOSTAR).

I also don't like newegg, try zipzoomfly.com. I've had way too many RMAs involving newegg.

EDIT: It makes me sick I paid around $144 (maybe a few bucks less) for a 7900GS a year or so ago. bleah...

The sweet spot is the GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB. Such as this one. Nvidia made some wierd naming deciscions on this one. Even though its called a 8800GTS like the one you picked out, its based on a newer chipset (the G92). For $250 this card performs as well as a 8800GTX 768MB. The 8800GTS 320MB and 640MB are the old chipsets and have much lower performance.

Here's a Toms Hardware review on 8800GTS (G92) model.

Ok thanks for all the great info guys. I'd like to update my scenario though. I'm not a hardcore gamer first of all. I only plan on playing Spore, Sims 3, C&C, Starcraft, and maybe Warhammer Online. I'm not into FPS so I would think I'm not going to need the greatest GPU. I have a budget of $650 for the computer itself not including the monitor. So can someone please reccomend me a good motherboard/CPU/GPU combination for what I will be using this computer for? Thanks!

ALSO I'm really thinking about buying a cheaper GPU thats capable of SLI incase I ever want to double my graphics capabilities. =p

Remember that SLi does not increase by double. You see approximately 40% increase. not 100% increase.

Sorry, but all Hardware related discussion needs to go into the PC Hardware board; which is right next to this board :).
