Bah, just look at how Alienware likes to milk money out of their customers, 1920x1200 Display with a 7600 GPU! A 7600 won't hold 16x12 res, imagine 19x12!

Really expencive though

You can get a computer almost as good (7900gs instead of 7950GTX) from Gateway for less than $2000

Personally I am regretting getting a laptop for uni that I bought to amalgamate games and portability. If I could do it again, I would get pretty much the cheapest laptop you could, for Word, email and the internet, and then spend the rest of my money on a nice gaming desktop. I could have got a desktop with better performance than my laptop, AND a cheap laptop for the same price as I spent.

I agree.  To me laptops should be strictly for desktop apps and movies.  No games at all.  If you want games get a cheap laptop for desktop apps and a 360 and/or PS3.  You will end up with $1,000 extra in your pocket and a much better gamming experience.

blackknight, go to dell.com and click on the base model of a inspiron e1705 and configure it with a Core 2 duo 7200 cpu, 2 gibs of ram, and a 7900 GS card. It should run you about $1500, much cheaper then any other site and you still get a great machine

why would a computer as powerful as that laptop cost less than 2000 dollars? you can get a much more powerful PC for, oh I'd say depending on where you live, 1300 to 1500 dollars, and that includes a 19 inch widescreen monitor, and maybe a 320 MB 8800 GTS

Any recommendations or another model you recommend? It will also be a dual-boot with Ubuntu 7.04.

Is there any rush for this purchase? Its kinda funny because I got the exact laptop above, sans the Core 2 (just a Core duo)  with 2 Gigs of Ram,  a cheaper battery, and a smaller HD for 1600....last June.

If there is not rush, wait until Dell unleases some of their summer deals. Otherwise, I believe that I saw a nice Acer (maybe, saw it a few months ago, memory hazy) with a 7600GTX 15' screen for around 1500.

Some last questions yet: 1. Should I get a 256 or 512 GPU? It would be the 7900 series. If the price drops this summer I'll definitly get the nVidia 7950 512. 2. Should I stick with the Integrated Sound or get a HD Sound card?
