I was testing my surround sound on my PS3 and noticed that the keytone when scrolling the menu seemed to play in every speaker. While playing GTA IV during cut scenes I could hear slightly the cut scene being played in my rear speakers (GTA was selected to play in surround sound too." My PS3 is hooked up by optical cable as well, and is set to output on it. Am I over reacting or is this not really surround sound?

If you could hear it slightly, then most likely nothing is wrong with your speakers. The cut scene was probably designed / mixed to play softly in the surrounds and heavier in the front. Many games / movies are like this.
