I think they are obsolete now. Unless you are going to put surround sound for your computer, or if you are a music maker guy dude. Also the cpu won't have to do as much work for sound I think.

Most motherboards come with pretty good sound so like the user above me said, unless you have really nice speakers it won't really be worth the cash

yeah and if you want/need great sound quality with much less interference then buy a sound card, but like they said the on board sound these days is decent and has basically taken alot of business from the sound card market.

Most new motherboards have good soundcards/chips and soundcards make more use for audiophile or music creators.

but a sub 50 card will not give you much of an uppgrade at all, i find most cheap soundcards even worse than the standard onboard realtec 8xxx soundchip/cards thats on most new motherboards.

Don't go cheap on the soundcard or use the one on the motherboard thats my input on the matter.

/Audiophile.

I agree with all of the replyes here that mos boards come with good audio already, come on, the 780i comes with built-in 7.1 Channel HD audio...

But i've heard that having a sound card gives better framerates... i dont know how much true this is but bit makes sense...the CPU won't have to worry about audio but then again i dont think itwouldbe a huge increase...

i say if you have a new board, or if u absolutely need 7.1 channel Ultra-High-def audio, don't bother...

I bought mine to upgrade from my Dell onboard and it was a big difference. Not so much with my P35-DS3L and realtek.
