So there are a few games that have come out recently which some people seem to make a big deal of, but I never cared for them. I'll list ones that apply to me, and maybe you can list yours, so we can find the games that really should be (or shouldn't be!) ignored.

Just Cause 2 - too consoley, though the port is well-done. I'll take GTA 4 any day instead.

Resident Evil 5 - another great port, but feels awkward to me (just not used to console games)

Command & Conquer 4 - ruined by lack of base building. Thank god for Starcraft 2!

Assassin's Creed 2 - might check it out later. Considering how forgettable and repetitive the 1st game was, and this one's DRM, it's hard to go for it. I might grab this for like $5 at a Steam sale much later though.

Splinter Cell: Conviction - haven't we had enough of this series already? Also, terrible DRM..

Metro 2033 - no fun playing a game that rapes your computer. I think I'll wait when I have a new system, whenever that is, and then max it out 200%!

Red Faction Guerrilla - boring, dull, derivative, generic, and belongs on consoles. If you had played Red Faction 1 before this, you might get a heart attack when you first try this abomination. Yes, I'm judging the game based off 10 minutes of gameplay, but it's just not Red Faction..

NFS Shift - get it right, EA. Make something FUN, like Most Wanted, Underground, High Stakes, or Hot Pursuit 2. Stop taking racing games so seriously. There are enough realistic racing simulators out there.

Arkham Asylum - excellent production values and the game is just well done. But once, again, it just feels awkward playing on the PC. Even with a 360 controller. Maybe it's just me..

Anyway, let's hear about the games you've been ignoring!

Command & Conquer 4 - ruined by lack of base building. giant11

Its not overrated. I think just about everyones consensus is that game is crap.

Assassin's Creed 2 - might check it out later. Considering how forgettable and repetitive the 1st game was, and this one's DRM, it's hard to go for it. giant11

I don't think that using the experiences of the first game is a particularly valid reason to dismiss it. Especially when considering that this game is a massive improvement over the first one that addresses damn near all the issues that made the first game forgettable. And yeah, I thought that the first game was also very forgettable and uber repetitive as well.

How are some of those games even overrated?

Splinter Cell got horrible reviews on the PC
AC2 you haven't even played despite them fixing the main grip you had with the first
RFG you've played 10 minutes of
C&C4 got poor reviews
Need for Speed Shift isn't a sim
Just Cause 2 and Batman AA aren't overrated even if they feel "awkward"
You can't call a game overrated just because it has high requirements either.

I think you don't really know what overrated means, since many of those game don't really have excellent reviews, but NFS Shift is one of the best, if not the best NFS yet, Arkham Asylum is great, it's just you. BUT from your list one game actually is overrated AC 2, it's trash way more dull than the first one and gameplay mechanics are worse even tho it should have worked the same. It's summer nothing popular got released in these past months so nothing to call overrated, only game to report would be Starcraft 2 and I'm sure haters will "vote" it ;).

Bad Company 2 - I don't know what people see in this game. It's like Battlefield trying to be Call of Duty. I cant decide whether this game is better or worse than MW2. The Witcher - You can only inject so much story into a game until it just ruins the whole thing. I would have honestly liked it more if they just gave it some generic story with shorter cutscenes.

Honestly, I haven't even looked at the reviews.

C&C4 got poor reviews

True, but I assumed all of them were for the lack base-building. Taking it out just took the essence out of the game

Need for Speed Shift isn't a sim

In the new franchising model for the series adopted by EA, Shift takes its place focusing on simulation/arcade racing rather than the arcade racing of previous titles in the series.

- from wikipedia

Just Cause 2 and Batman AA aren't overrated even if they feel "awkward"

You can't call a game overrated just because it has high requirements either.

True, my thread title is a little misleading. I'm mostly talking about games I ignored and then I explain why. I've changed the title to reflect this.

Xeros606

People are just all over BC2 because everyone is so sick of MW2. It is a little bit overrated, I suppose.

The Witcher - I kind of have to agree. The combat mechanics are kind of 'love it or hate it'. I hated it.

Crysis! Amazing graphics, but lackluster gameplay and story.

I actually didn't think the combat was that bad. I only wish they spent more time developing it, rather than going off and trying to turn the game into a novel.

taking base building out of an rts doesnt make it all of a sudden terrible.. you think we would have 4 different myth games and advanced wars if we needed base building? and dont even try to sell me to the idea that advanced wars or myth are abd games.. that kind of thing gets you badly hurt.

Well, I did enjoy the hell out of World in Conflict. I didn't get to play the Warhammer series, though. All I'm saying is that I'm ok with no base building, but only in some games.

0_0 are you serious with that list? you just mentioned some of best PC games that came out - AC2 is way better than original, JC2 - good times with ready sandbox and explosives+physics, Metro 2033 best graphically game and very good one too - doesn't deserve to be ignored because your rig can't handle it!, Conviction - best in series also changed the whole game of the sneaking idea, RF Guerrilla - story isn't good but you can't say a thing about graphics, physics or gameplay; NFS Shift - best simulation racing out now - better than Pro Street and Undercover - if you want something fun go for Blur or Split Second, Arkham Asylum - epic game. Agree about C&C4 because they've dumbed down the series.

Sim, Simarcade and Arcade are 3 different types of racing games.

You don't have to believe me ;), I could play AC 1 till the 6th assassination and the gameplay mechanics actually worked, movement was fluid, AC 2 on the other hand I didn't even manage to buy it, I played it at a friend on Xbox and it was absolutely horrible worst hour spent on a game (and I played Oblivion for 6, a game I consider to be the worst ever), after that I just saw him play the last 4 missions....absolutely horrible, and if the movement is so bad on a gamepad I don't even wanna know how it works with a keyboard.

The movement is the same as the first...

What do you have to complain about? You are the first person I know who thinks that the second is worse than the first.

More assassination techniques, more weapons, much more variety in every way, you can buy things, manage your villa and earn money, go on lots of side-missions, explore the enourmous and much more colorful country of Italy, do whatever you want, upgrade your weapons.

Just tell us why you think it's horrible. Saying that you found it hard to move around is really a weak point if you ask me.

Actually nope there are a few others even here on this forum and no movement is not the same, 2 has horrible movement when it comes to obstacles compared to 1. This game is all about movement, you can't play the story without moving (acrobatic elements, not walking), it's even more tedious and boring than the first, it doesn't give you a reason to play it, oh we were framed, I shall destroy this city with every traitor in it...weak story just as the first, terrible voice acting, use better voice actors if you want to set a certain mood not not bad actors that know Italian and I don't give it the benefit of the doubt because 1 the start of the game is horrible, Witcher also has a weak start, but here's where 2 comes, horrible ending, and this is Ubisoft they want to impress from the start, so what's in the middle can't be anything else other than more of this mediocrity.

So if you can't tell why I say it's way worse than the first:
- a lot more boring (maybe playing AC 1 made me consider 2 as terribly boring with nothing interesting whatsoever)
- terrible story (this time they made it more personal than 1, problem is they based it on horrible motives)
- terrible voice acting (use decent voice actors, not a few great ones and others that make you want to smash your head with the controller)
- bad atmosphere (because of all the other factors)

- movement (acrobatics are way too straightforward, less realistic than the first, too stiff)

Also for you maybe having more weapons and other redundant things that probably nobody even cares, but hey they're there, but for me those are just things to distract from the flaws. Is Prototype a good game because you have hundreds of skills? I can tell you more than 10 flash simple flash games that are better than it.

One good thing I can say about it, the city is great.

This is how it was for me, unless they made another game on PC, then it's the same as the 360 version. Can't compliment a game because others like it, not unless it's a quality game and AC2 is not.

You can't say it's not a quality game just because you did not like it. I'm really trying not to start an argument here so I will keep it simple:

The game is better than the first, period. The first was just constantly doing the same tasks over and over again.

I didn't play the Xbox version, but loved the PC. Btw, give the game some time, it gets much better later on, storywise and overall.

I have no idea why you are having trouble free running, because it is practically flawless. Never had any trouble getting anywhere or running away from guards. The only bad thing I noticed was the sometimes in a very heated battle, when you try to run away you will run into the wrong thing, climb god knows where, and maybe even meet your death because of it.

Pretty much anything by Ubisoft, not bothering with starcraft 2 (don't see why I should pay a console game price for a PC game). I am not bothering with Mafia 2 due to the ridiculous "exclusive PS3 content" rubbish. So right now there isn't much for me to look forward too gaming wise :P ah well less money for them and more money for me I guess.

If you are ignoring Ubi games because of the DRM... DON'T! The last few games I played, namely Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction have been amaazing, and the DRM didn't really interfere.

The online DRM that Ubisoft uses is so grotesque that I refuse to be a party to it. Whilst Ubisoft continues to use this 100% on line DRM I will continue to not give them my money. It dismays me that people are quite happy to accept this DRM just to play a game but that is for each individual to decide. Me personally anything Ubisoft gets ignored now, as far as I am concerned Ubisoft is now a console developer.

I am far from happy with the DRM, but it's a shame to skip on a good game because of the stupidity of the devs.

Every Ubisoft games since Assassin's Creed 2: The DRM left me unable to play them. At all. Period. Command & Conquer 4: Same reason as above. Just Cause 2: I'm still on XP, but once I upgrade to Win7 later this year, I will get it. Alpha Protocol: Discouragingly bad reviews. Aliens vs Predator: Also discouragingly bad reviews.

i played the game on pc with just m and k and if you set the keys right you would never have a problem even is assassin tombs graphics are awesome story is one of the best why because :- Spoilers below its about a person a normal person of street who loses his faily because of his father's friend who was under control of someone else his father's last wish to him was to open a chest which contained asssins robes so he hunts down for revenge of his family and learns from is mistakes he assassinates all of the main villain Rodrigo assistants and gives them a quick death and gives them respect i know i am not much of a storyteller but if you get into the story its one of the awesome i already preodered AC BROTHERHOOD and if you jude a game buy movements i am sorry but you can' judge a game

ON TOPIC HERE IS MY LIST

1-JUST CAUSE 2-I HAVE WINXP SP3 GETTING WIN7 IN SOME TIME

2-COD MW2 -PLAYED IT AT MY FRIENDS HOUSE LOT OF HACKERS SERIOUSLY

3-ARMA 2-BUSY IN BFBC2:D

The only bad thing I noticed was the sometimes in a very heated battle, when you try to run away you will run into the wrong thing, climb god knows where, and maybe even meet your death because of it.Resistance_Kid
Exactly that, it needs to be way more precise than in the first (control), they made the game harder which is good because the first was a little too easy but their new gameplay mechanics made it a lot more frustrating too, when you run in straight lines all is great looks good, but when you need to change the direction he twitches and most of the time not in the right direction, the first game was flawless, if you made a mistake then you really did one, not because your stick or w/e was off 0.2 mm.

And yes dragonballz I'll judge movement when it's about these games, it's not like I'd appreciate a PoP with Fallout movement...the AC series, PoP, Tomb Raider, and others are games in which movement is an extremely important factor that can make or break the game.

Every game on that list is great. The only game I've been ignoring is just cause 2 because I'm busy playing metro(amazing game) and the limited edition is waiting for me.

Ahh, well it's not really a game breaker, the game is still amazing, especially the combat, but yes, scaling enourmous building with the current mechanic is also pretty frustrating, as well as Assassin's Tombs. Every single tomb I played was frustrating, it felt like a task rather than a game, but at least I got Altair's armor :D

Sim, Simarcade and Arcade are 3 different types of racing games.

PredatorRules

Well, I suppose Simarcade would be a hybrid of sim & arcade. But I gotta say, they've taken the series too far to the sim side. They need to bring close to the middle (and thus the arcade element).

* Splinter Cell: Conviction
* Assassin's Creed 2
* Modern Warfare 2
* Just Cause 2
* Prototype
* GTA IV series
* SW: Force Unleashed
* Aliens vs Predator
* Resident Evil 5
* Dragon Age

Hey, you & I think alike. Also, I totally forgot about Prototype. Yet another console game..

I am not bothering with Mafia 2 due to the ridiculous "exclusive PS3 content" rubbish. So right now there isn't much for me to look forward too gaming wise :P ah well less money for them and more money for me I guess.

Nooooo! Mafia 2 on PC is supposed to be an incredible experience. It will have some serious PhysX going. They've surely put in the time to make it work well on PC. Plus, any exclusive content will likely make its way to other platforms, and if not, we'll have alternate content.

1-JUST CAUSE 2-I HAVE WINXP SP3 GETTING WIN7 IN SOME TIME

Doesn't work with XP?

Mafia 2 with physx's enabled is a joke requirements wise. I have an Nvidia GTX260 and I won't be able to use the Physx included in this game. You need a minimum of a Quadcore Processor + GTX470 + 9800GTX just to access the physx's rubbish. To max out the physx's rubbish you need an i7 + GTX470 + GTX285

So along with ridiculous spec requirements, ridiculous "exclusive content to one system only", ridiculous pre-order rubbish and only 10 hours of gaming it is one game I won't touch till it is in the "fiver or less" bin.
