as far as graphics go, I'd immediately suggest Far Cry and Oblivion. Far Cry is a bit old, but the view distances are insane, and it still looks as good as most of the games that have come out since. Oblivion will be the real test of your computer, though.
If you don't mind me asking, what card did you buy?
There are lots. Agreed on Oblivion. Silent Hunter IV Wolves of the Pacific has nice screenshots; Silent Hunter III was a good looking world. Virtual Skipper 4 and 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 are some others.
Lately I've been playing ArmA armored assault (sequal to Flashpoint) which has a world I've never seen in a game. It's massive and amazing: over 400 square kilometers of realisitic island terrain with towns, cities, mountains, bridges, vineyards, etc, and everything is to scale and looks realistic; unlike so many games. Far Cry, while a good looking game, is not remotely like ArmA in this aspect. ArmA really has to be seen to be believed.
STALKER is immersive but hardly "beautiful"! If I play it for too long I get so depressed I have to take a break!
If you want a beautiful world it's hard to top Oblivion.

i agree - i'm hardly oblivion's biggest fan - but yeah, oblivion is just about the most beautiful gameworld out there right now - if you want to just walk around in a completely beautiful world, you should get oblivion... nothing else has come close to recreating the simple beauty of the natural world
stalker is awesome looking, but the entire world is girtty and dirty and dilapidated - stalker is beautiful from a technical perspective, though, and you just buy it anyway just because it's awesome
Coming from a recently 7900gs owner, install HL2, and the FakeFactory mod (hope u hav 2gb ram), u'll get an average of 100 FPS (i get 20 in stalker) and you'll feel what your PC is capable of... the water and the faces (FF) are really something...
one more thing... if you hav an XFX, wich temps do u get? i normaly get from 75-82max on heavy games... i think someting is wrong here... oh, and the room temperatur its something around 30-35C
[QUOTE="Ankaara"]Very good... only issue... it's on a computer with Vista. And Vista hates me. AlanSpellVista Hate evryone Not true. Bought a laptop with it and works 100% good. So anyone who doesn't want Vista I just don't know why. It's great for me.

In terms of beautiful, immersive worlds, I would say Myst IV. It's an older game, but beautifully done.
Adventure games are not everyone's cup of tea, but if you just want to take your time and leisurely play a game while drinking in the surroundings, Myst IV is ideal. The hand icon allow you to tap on all the objects in the world, giving you a sense of texture and density (a "ping" when tapping metal, a "knock" when tapping wood).
Guild Wars.toxik_13
^^ That plus check out DreamFall - its not extremely good looking tech-wise, but the art is amazing.
Very good... only issue... it's on a computer with Vista. And Vista hates me. I'm trying to play Battle of Middle Earth II, which looks fabulous, but it keeps crashing :( Also, Vista/McAffe won't let it connect to the internet or update... so, I'm having issues. But the video card is great.Ankaara
Just turn McAffe of or atleast the firewall which is really anoying
i plan on getting a new pc soon should i not get vista?jcoy5Buddy, yoy should get a vista computer. And also, theres the y'know, fact that now the only place you'll be able to get an XP compy is on ebay.
Oblivion is for sur a beautiful game in terms of graphics. But personaly I thing you will be disappointed by this game if you're used to playing older games with awesome stories. I can't believe a RPG that let you finish the game at level 6...
I agree that Windows Vista is shi* . I got it for free and uninstalled it for XP because I got tired of compatibility issues and poor performance compared to XP.
Oblivion is very pretty. If you're into MMORPGs I'd say Vanguard is a good option as well. Requires a good machine to run it on high settings but it looks freakin amazing. xcryonicx
I'd agree, Vanguard is VERY nice looking for a MMORPG.
As far as Oblivion goes, I love the game and it does have a very beautiful world.
I'd recommend downloading the "Natural Environments" Mod for it though, if you're willing. It just adds so much more to the games already amazing environment.
the 4 most impressive/realistic/beautiful environments i can think of are
Oblivion (especially with the natural environments mod)
STALKER
Medieval II: total war (gorgeous with the graphics cranked all the way up)
and Just Cause (gameplay gets dull... still, the game looks great)
If you don't mind some older and more blocky-looking graphics, Giants: Citizen Kabuto and Sacrifice both have stunning worlds. You can seriously appreciate the way they were formed. C&C3 also has some pretty impressive locales.krazyorange
Sacrifice is a great call. For a game that came out in 2000, the Graphics still look awesome.
If you have a good online connection, buy the original Guild Wars. Sure, the environment is a little dry ('scuse the pun) after The Searing of Ascalon, but you will eventually come across some gorgeous areas. Great game, great environment, and you will be able to play everything at the highest setting, always nice to have.
I have a big collection of my own screenshots from Guild Wars (often called Prophecies) and Guild Wars: Nightfall which I use as the desktop background on my monitor. I switch screenshots every now and then.
