Hey i am currently in the market to get a sound card for gaming. My os is Windows Vista HP 64-bit. I was planning to get Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer but i heard creative has really bad support and bad drivers, especially for Vista 64. So i am trying to stay away from them. My budget is $100 and that is the highest i can go. Can someone recommend me a good sound card for gaming (and i listen to music sometimes too) that isnt from Creative? Maybe like Auzentech or Asus soundcards, but something in my budget.

Thanks

Unless your willing to spend more, I doubt you could find very compatible cards.

Asus Xonar DX. Probably the best gaming sound card on the market, period.

I have the xtremegamer and everything works. The Asus cards do not support EAX HD the Auzentech cards that do support it seems a bit pricey.

I have the xtremegamer and everything works. The Asus cards do not have native EAX HD support. The Auzentech cards that do support it seems a bit pricey. The gap between onboard and dedicated sound cards is small if your motherboard came with HD sound. That is a Vista requirement.

I have the xtremegamer and everything works. The Asus cards do not support EAX HD and only support up to 2.0. That dates back to Sound Blaster Live. The Auzentech cards that do support it seems a bit pricey.Deihmos

That's the Xonar D2 and DX2. The Xonar DX does not have EAX 5.0 "technically", but it is able to emulate it very closely.

Good review of the Xonar DX

Marginal performance in music and movies and piss-poor drivers. And to help stop a monopoly.
