OK, so I am going to allow myself one more game during this holiday (though technically its over, the holiday deals are still going on wooo)

So, thus far I have narrowed it down to:

The Settlers: Rise of an Empire
Tropico 3

I am definately leaning towards Tropico 3, really enjoyed the demo, but the settlers games have always had a charm to them and I have not played any of their games for like 10 years lol.

Any other suggestions?

1701 A.D. or Anno 1701 is the third installment in the Anno Series. Dawn of Discovery also known as Anno 1404 is the latest installment in the series. So in other words.. If you like Dawn of Discovery, maybe you'll like Anno 1701 / 1701 A.D. aswell. As for Port Royale 2.. All I know is it's a business simulation game. Haven't played it yet.

Thinking of picking up Tropico 3 or Dawn of Discovery myself, gonna see if I can decide based on the demos before the sale is up. Any input/opinions on either game would be helpful.

Tropico3 and Dawn of Discovery are the best imo. Two great games that are very underrated.

Definatly get Tropico3 out of the ones you listed bud!
I expected it to be ok or good, but its excellent. Good gameplay, tons of funny humour and nice graphics.

Im honestly really surprised at how little fan fare Tropico3 gets. I am smacking myself for not getting it earyier, just tons of fun an dnice and chill.

Played it for 5 hours there one day around XMAS, and I dont do that often at all. Def get it bud!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dawn of Discovery (Anno 1404)

Very, very good game. The combination of conquest and city building is a fantastic combination.

For example in most comparable games you struggle with the opposition because they're the opposition, In Anno you struggle with them out of necessity, you need to find new lands with more resources to fuel your economy and industry and so do they. Whether that turns into war or a healthy trading relationship is up to you.

Excellent suggestions! My gf has been looking for a city-builder type game & I shall look into these some more for her. I hope there will be demos available on Steam.

If I could add a similar request on topic, has anyone played Cities XL?

I sort of like the look of it, wanted some opinions though as it really isnt all that high up on my list of games to get.

Anno 1404 is great, but it lacks that city-building aura. The resource system is terrific, but you start to crave for transportation, urban zoning, etc etc. Tropico 3 is also great, but the realism sorta isn't there (you get a massive apartment building that houses only 12 people??)

Yeah Cities XL is on Steam but it's expensive. 49.99 - Limited Edition 39.99 - Regular Edition
