After playing Victoria II, I have an itch to play a similar game but set in the medieval period or earlier. I have Medieval II: TW but the depth doesn't compare to paradox games. Crusader Kings on the hand seems to unorganized for my liking. So if anyone has any suggestions they would be most welcome :).

Did you seriously just say Medieval Total War 2 doesn't have enough depth for you...? Well, first, try the Britannia campaign in Kingdoms, and second...GOOD DAY TO YOU, HEATHEN!

Edit: The only other game I can think of is King Arthur, but that's more fantasy-oriented...Ehm, you could buy Majesty 2 off of Steam for like four bucks? But that's not grand strategy. That's honestly all I can think of.

Medieval 2 Total War has quite a bit of depth, true... however it does not come anywhere near the depth/complexity of Paradox games like Victoria. In Paradox games you have control over so much of your situation that it can be overwhelming [and makes the learning curve quite steep]. @ The OP: Have you played Europa Universalis III + Expansions yet? The timeline is on a grander scale than Victoria 2 and it has the same sort of complexity (though the economics model is tame compared to Vic 2). Vic 2 is the medieval version of Hearts of Iron [IMO] - where you have deep control over your entire economy, the other games that come close [EU 3] give you a more "overhead" control of economics, but still are quite deep and require careful thought [Are you going to risk instability for a year in order to advance your countries ideals in different methods? Will you butter up to the HRE or Papal States in order to use them as your pawn when calling a crusade on the Heathens? Will you play nice and drive everyone out of business w/ your merchants or subdue them by Fire & Sword?]

Total War is probably the best strategy series out there. Give Medieval II a try again.

Try a Civilization game? You go through the Medieval period and the games have a huge amount of depth.
