Um, why?krazyorangeI was playing Dead Space today and complaining that Dead Space was difficult and my bro said that if i gamed in his era i would die from frustration(dunno if the word is spelled correctly). I want to relive those Dark ages of Agony and frustration. Oh, and i want a modern one(2004-today).

He is right! And you can't experience the "dark ages" unless you actually go back and play some of those games :P
Here are some games I remember being pretty hard:
Megaman
Lifeforce
Contra
Blaster Master
Battle for Olympus
A boy and his blob
Battletoads (that stupid hover bike level LOL)
You know, almost all those games back then were painfully hard. Most of them were only actually like 3-4 hours long, but would take weeks to beat because you would have to play them over and over and over and over again.
But for a modern day game I would try maybe Viewetiful Joe or the newer Ninja Gaiden games.

Personally I haven't played Viewetiful Joe, But I did play Ninja Gaiden Black...game is a nightmare.
Here are two that are hard, but do-able:
And here's one that's definitely going to get you to yank out your hair in frustration:
And one that's just a b@#$% to not break down crying in anger and hopelessness:
hardest games ever...
doom 2 on nightmare
aliens versus preadator 2
myst/riven
star wars x-wing aliance
mafia

Any of the Ninja Gaiden games. Every word jumping out of your mouth will be **** or ****.
It's really hard.
Like REALLY REALLY hard.
It was made that way
My experience with Dead Space - The beginnning moments really pumped me up. And when I saw one of the monsters for the first time tearing up my crewmates I felt like I was in for something akin to Aliens. But then I find out that I have a button that shows me where to go. It took some of the scare out because you could never get lost in the ship, which would have been awesome.
That minor point aside, I really enjoyed that game. Combat was good, the atmosphere was brilliant. But I agree that it wasn't really that hard.
For a really hard game, play the original Prince of Persia. Can anyone say "One hour time limit"?
serious sam on serious mode will cause you to commit suicide. the sheer number of enemies and the fact that you always barely have enough ammo (even having full ammo on everything doesn't last long, you have to burn through so much)

I will second Megaman (Rockman) and that one is still fun to play today. Battletoads.... yes that one I sold after I beat it once cause it was disgusting. Contra I beat several time over in the 1st day I got it so I am not sure why that's there. I dont know about the rest of that list. I would also look up: Karnov (mediocre difficulty but its fun even now) Castlevania II (without a guide its almost impossible) Zanac (this one drove me nuts) Altered Beasts (frustrating with only 2 continues) Modern Stuff: Galactic Civilizations on hardest level (never beat it) Civilizations IV (again at highest level... beatable but good luck)Not a PC game, but that ninja turtles game back on NES was crazy hard. The one with the water level. Was it turtles in time?
STALKER on master
COD4 on Veteran
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Megaman 9
Battletoads
Tetris
Pac-Man
Space Invaders
The MGS games on European Extreme, no kills or alerts run
The Witcher on Hard
Morrowind/Oblivion/Fallout 3 on hardest
Fallout 2 (the first dungeon is really hard)
Street Fighter 4 on Ultra Hard
Bioshock on Survivor difficulty
Counter-Strike 1.6 or source
civ 4 on hardest difficulty. Its a tbs though and requires A LOt of taste and its near damn impossible to win.
Edit: Not just finishing the game, but beating all the cpu players in score.
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 (one of the few games i couldn't beat because of its difficulty), Stalker: Clear Sky on pretty much any difficulty (harder than the first one imo), far cry is tough, but i finished it without cheats. not tough enough. the first splintercell gets fairly difficult later on, but is fairly old by your standards (2002). GTAIV can be hard but for the wrong reasons. i'd go with GRAW or Stalker: clear sky.
