I'm very quickly running out of space on my old 250GB Maxtor SATA-150. It's also not the fastest drive out there. I was originally going to buy a 750GB Samsung Spinpoint F1, mostly because they have a 32mb cache and are pretty cheap, but I read some rather negative reviews on newegg. Seems many of them are arriving DOA, crapping out within a few days or weeks, or having other strange issues.

I was thinking I might just fork out the dough for this Western Digital 1TB as I've always heard good things about WD, but is it worth it for $210?

I'm mostly concerned with reliabilty. I don't want a drive that's going to up and die on me. I've always used Maxtor in the past and had good luck with them (my current HDD is like 4 or 5 years old), but they're virtually non-existent these days. And yes, I really could use that much space. I have so much music, pronz, and games on my HDD it's ridiculous.

VERY worth it. I suppose if you really wanted to save money you could go for a 750GB or even a 500GB. But at the price, you won't have to worry about space for at least a little while, plus they are very fast. Not Raptor fast, but very good for a 7200RPM drive.

The cache dont mean squat after 8mb for you to see a difference. Just get two 500's you will save money and you can raid them for extra performance. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136178

I'm eyeballing the Western Digital 640GB Drive. WD Drives have never let me down... I'm put off by Seagate after this 320GB model I bought makes too much noise to be a primary drive.
