Thanks in advance for any help. Preferably, could you give me quickfind codes to your recommended motherboard on either

- Ebuyer.com

- Microdirect.com

- scan.co.uk

But don't worry about that; it's because I'm in the UK and would like to avoid them shipping costs! :P

Also looking for a few suggestions for an AM2 board. I'm thinking about getting a 6000+ X2 (between that and a p35/C2D6600).

Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe, best motherboard I've ever owned. Only flaw I've noticed is that it overvolts the CPU very slightly.

Personally, I'd say DFI or nothing.

DFI's nForce AMD boards have been some of the absolute best. A bit finicky at first, but part of that is from the sheer number of memory options their BIOS provides. Once you can get a stable set of timings on, they still hold some of the best overclocking records one can get., short of say getting a manufacturer-volt-modded board or something... but of course only those going for world records on LN2 are able to persuade that out of someone.

Well, I wouldn't be looking to overclock the 6000+. Would that make a difference in my choice?

Seriously, I just don't get why you wouldn't go with Core 2 Duo. Especially since the July 22nd price cuts are coming...

the 6000+ performs about the same as a E6600 and you dont have to over clock them for it to be good. Pretty much good for people who dont want to get into OCing

After the price cuts, an E6750 will be only $183, which is roughly the same price of a 6000+ ($178). The E6750 outperforms the 6000+ while consuming half the power (less heat, lower noise).

Unless you're already on a good AM2 platform, sure, go for the 6000+. If you're buying a new CPU/Mobo, you'd be nuts to pass up a Core 2.

Fair enough. :/

It's his money, not mine. I'm just advising him how to get the best bang for the buck.

Thankyou very much for all of the replies. I very well know how (arguably) much 'better' - in terms of heat, power consumption, speed etc - Core 2 Duos are. I can't beleive that I haven't heard of this price cut. This changes things :P My question is now: Which Core 2 Duo model gives the best bang for buck? After the price cuts I mean.

I'm looking at getting:

Core 2 Duo E6550 (1333mhz)

2GB DDR2 RAM

ATI 1950XT Pro (may change)

250GB SATAII HD

Whats a good mobo under £50 for these specs?

I appreciate all the arguing on my part. :)

It's actually up in the air which way I'll go. If the C2D 6750 is going to be that low, I'll most likely go that way - I just wanted to know what all my options were before buying.

BTW, what current C2D does the 6750 line up with? Is it the 6600 or the 6700?

(Damn me for hijacking)

But I'd advise spending more on:

EDIT: Just noticed that the Foxconn is a pre order board.

The E6700.

MSI P35 still a decent board for C2D procs? I don't want to overclock or anything, and don't want to spend a crapload either.
