Definitely the red alert series. Red Alert 1 was my favourite RTS back then, and Red Alert 2 was my favourite RTS all the way to Dawn of War. I think Yrui's side in the expansion was a little... well, fundamentally broken - I only know of one allied faction that could effectively counter Yuri, and no Soviet faction (talking about good players here). But that said, I still think YR is one of the best RTS expansions ever.
On the flip side, I think the original C&C is a masterpiece - but TS really did nothing for me. I actually didn't get to play any of the original C&C games on PC, I played Playstation versions, so coming to TS afterward was quite an eye-opener, it being one of my first PC RTS games. But even so, TS didn't impress me as much as Red Alert did.
Then there was Red Alert 2, and it was awesome. It was familiar C&C - familiar Red Alert, even, but both armies were totally reworked. Familiar yet fresh is something the C&C series had never managed prior and (with the possible exception of Generals, which I never played) did not manage it again. YR, despite its flaws, just made the game bigger and better than any C&C yet.
C&C3 just pissed me off. After a decade of playing the same damn game with almost no improvement at all (testament both to how good the original formula was and how badly Westwood and then inhouse EA was able to adapt to the changing state of the genre) just left me feeling like there was no point bothering with the series any more. Something which really killed me inside a little.
ra is a badass game, but i theres no way ra is better than tiberium, tiberium started it off for one, it has a way better story line that actually stays together and doesnt get as far fetched as ra, ra 3 was good but to me disapointing, the game seemed more like it was for little kids because the units were just too goofy, and who attacks with a bear? and shoots infantry out of a vehicle like a damn circus act?? ra 3 had some set backs that just made it not fun to play, ra2 and yr were bad ass, should have stuck to that story line and units, like the navy seals, and the old apocalypse tanks would demolish the new ones, anyways from tiberian sun to tw3, the story line has just evolved and carried on, it keeps you looking to the next chapter every time one plays it, because it still has a future game to come out, tw4 will be incredible, ra3 graphics were better than tw3 only because it came out later, but still ra couldnt beat tib, tib's story linen and unit capabilities and units, as well as factions are just way more unique, so my vote will be for tib by a long shot, i dont see how ra is better, ra 2 might be, it comes close but still tib is way better
I just recently played through Tiberium 1 and 2 and LOVED them despite their older graphics. I'm now trying to get through this difficult section in 3.
Red Alert 1 has been boooooooooring to me. It just feels like a texture-swap where I'm at in the game (towards the beginning). Maybe that will change. But until then, my vote is :
Tiberium
RA has naval combat, but I didn't like RA3 at all. I haven't full enjoyed the series since RA 1/2, so I am biased.
ra2 and yr makes ra the better for me. i think ra3 sucks, but i never liked any of hte tiberian ones, so ra for me
The tiberium series has a cooler story and setting, but the Red Alert series plays out a lot better.
Red Alert by far.
Tiberium's turd-brown color scheme and boring units don't earn any awards from me. All it has going for it is Kane.
Heh, this thread has been resurrected twice. Don't see that very of- OH GOD, it's me from over two years ago...
Err, my choice remains the RA series.
Well to be honest, when it comes to music, i like the RA series better, music is key since im a musician.
but as far as visuals,mood/atmosphere, story, and factions, i like tiberium
gameplay i liked both
all of them are good. but tiberium series is better imo
Red alert was once as serious as tiberium.
as a matter of fact the first RA is the beginning of it all (story wise) (even though C&C was the first one made)
if you beat the first RA with allies- you go on to the RA series, with RA2 and 3 (though with RA2 and 3 they have become more of the comical style rts games, they were still fun, though the more serious titles had more substance)
if you beat the first RA with soviets- you go on to the tiberium series, C&C1-2-3-4.
I used to like the tiberian series
but i never liked the gameplay on the tiberian series, don't get me wrong though the gameplay doesnt suck,
it just didnt cut it for me
so i think u know my anwser
