I don't think any other game even comes close. If you're into realism then you should check it out. The developers are the best around and are constantly tweaking and making small fixes to the game. It also has a steady stream of new maps coming out thatnks to a great community. It's the best 20 bucks you could ever spend.

Red Orchestra is a lot of fun and the only good reason to force yourself into Steam. (Until TF2 comes out anyway.)

Interesting to note, a mod is being made for Crysis which is basically going to be the equivalent of Red Orchestra in the Pacific. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get naval battles. Colorado Class BB FTW.

It will be awesome to finally play a WW2 realism shooter in the Pacific. Last I checked, that theatre is pretty short of good tactical shooters.

I'm really hoping they give us something like control of ships. No game has given usrealistic surface ship battles yet.

I played it and still consider ArmA and Operation Flashpoint to be the best realistic and "tactical" shooters out there.

While Red Orchestra might not be the most realistic game out there, I believe it strikes a perfect balance between gameyness and realism.

It's the only game I play now.

Operation Flashpoint yes. ArmA was an impossible exercise in masochism.

The Crysis Sandbox Editor is going to be released before the game is. Besides that their is no harm in throwing down concepts for the time. Given what we've heard about the Editor, the mod should be done relativly quickly. Since Crysis already has the textures for southern Pacific Island terrain. Combine with its ease of use in general.

Operation Flashpoint yes. ArmA was an impossible exercise in masochism.

Why? It wasn't that hard. And it's MP is much better than OPF.

I think RO is one of the best FPS's out there. The main thing I dont like is that weapon recoil is maybe a bit too high, especially for the russian SMG's. Cant barely shoot anything with those, because the weapon kicks back so damn much.

Semi-auto rifles are the best.

i tried the free weekend thing too. the graphics sucked, the levels were huge, walked around for a while before finding someone, either that or you turn a corner and theres 5 guys camping shooting at you randomly waiting for people to walk by. but it was realistic, but also boring.

If you're into realistic tactical multiplayer shooters you should check out Insurgency, the mod for Half-Life 2.

It works a lot like RO, but it's modern: the graphics make RO look really old, and the setting is modern-day Irak.

It's really good, although it may be argued it doesn't have the charm of RO. There's another thing it doesn't have, though, thank God, and that's vehicles.

You remember how I got a little annoyed at the people in the BF2 vs. 2142 thread for shooting 2142 just because it's player community wasn't as big as BF2's? Well, here's the other end of the spectrum. ArmA's player community is almost non existent.
