I've tried downloading drivers, it hasn't made a difference. Troubleshooting can't identify the problem, either. I have no idea what I should do, can somebody help me out, please?
It claims that the speakers aren't plugged in, which is false, they're plugged in, turned on (the green lights on and that noise when you plug them in happens) and up as loud as possible. Before reinstalling windows they worked absolutely fine.
In the Decive Manager it says This device is working properly.

Go to properties advanced and check your frequency and bitdepth, maybe the sound quality enabled is to high for you. Choose 16bit 44100hz and test.

A few things you can try:

  1. Is your computer also plugged into a television or second audio output, meaning are you using a Coaxial, Optical, or HDMI output? If so, it may be muting your regular 3.5mm out.
  2. Check regardless to make sure your default audio output is to the analog 3.5mm plug. I've had mine default back to HDMI after certain reboots.
  3. Try plugging into an alternative output. If you have a front output, try that.
  4. Check to make sure your speakers are working by plugging them into your MP3 player of choice.
  5. Have you downloaded the latest drivers for your specific audio chipset? For example, my motherboard uses a Realtek ALC888. I have the updated motherboard drivers, but also went to Realtek's site to get their drivers for audio, as well. The audio chipset manufacturer typically has more options available in its driver software than what you get stock with Windows.

Good luck,

Boz

Are you sure you have the proper output selected under Playback Devices? (Right click the volume on the lower right) If you're motherboard has HDMI or SPDIF, or your video card has HDMI, it might have one of those selected instead.

Did you try downloading new drivers ? I had problem a couple of days ago where my sound didn't work. Got new drivers and it was fixed. http://download.cnet.com/Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Codec-Windows-Vista-Windows-7-32-bit/3000-2120_4-10788600.html - Use that if you have 32 bit OS. http://download.cnet.com/Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Codec-Windows-Vista-Windows-7-64-bit/3000-2120_4-75317047.html - Use that if you have 64 bit OS.

I agree, install latest drivers. Have you tried the headphone jack?

I've tried downloading drivers, it hasn't made a difference. Troubleshooting can't identify the problem, either. I have no idea what I should do, can somebody help me out, please?
It claims that the speakers aren't plugged in, which is false, they're plugged in, turned on (the green lights on and that noise when you plug them in happens) and up as loud as possible. Before reinstalling windows they worked absolutely fine.
In the Decive Manager it says This device is working properly.

Skull-Fire

Uninstall the drive in device manager by right clicking it and then right click at the top scan for hardware changes. It will reinstall the driver then try playing audio from your music folder not your browser.

This is key. You must uninstall the original drivers first and make sure Windows doesn't try to install a built-in driver.

Double check to make sure you have the right version.

Also use Windows Update and compare what it turns up against what you have.
