Lets face it, you probably already know my opinion with Guild Wars already, however, if you aren't then I'll share a few reasons for me disliking this game.

Jumping into Guild Wars, immediately I was disappointed by the structure of how the player explores the world. The only way to meet other people was to be in a City, or questing with a party, which really puts a hole in the game to even be consider as an mmorpg, granted it was well received as an mmo(And it isn't, though you can make an argument).

The gameplay was simply awful, specifically the combat. I can tolerate the nature of it in a PvE setting, but as a PvP game, it just doesn't do it for me. A more dynamic combat system will be my preference in a game like Guild Wars. Compared to a game like WoW in a PvP setting, Guild Wars lacks depth and it doesn't feel intuitive.

I'm willing to play this game again and maybe go into Guild Wars with a different agenda and enjoy it as a PvE RPG and nothing more.

I wouldn't waste your time. Go for LOTRO instead.

If there's even a remote chance you might like PvE in an MMORPG, you'll definitely like LOTRO. I myself am more of a PvP person, but I think I might be getting back into LOTRO just for kicks.

Yeah I tried to get into Guild Wars multiple times but I always lose interest and quit. It's a decent game, just seems to be lacking something. The online isn't open world, and the combat isn't satisfying to me.

This game was fun back when it was released. The gameplay and the static world is outdated by 2009/2010 standards.

I used to be a huge player of Guild Wars. However, its population has fallen considerably. I find that there is little reason to return.

The advantage of Guild Wars is being able to play without monthly fees.

Well, 5 years is really not that long, in addition it doesn't bother me to play older games. I tried the PvP and I tried the PvE within Guild Wars and my opinion still stands, Guild Wars is terrible.

Well I disagree, at the time of its release it was a great game filled with lots of players that made the game fun and fresh. Obviously that changed in the years that past because despite new campaigns and missions, it was the same static world with nothing new or different. But when I purchased GW, I thought it was an awesome game.

It's not really an advantage if you can afford it. I don't mind paying for quality.

Loved Guild Wars for over 3 years, can't wait for GW2.

I'm surprised to see the negative reactions in this thread, generally people have a positive opinion of it.

Plenty of quality in Guild Wars, the original game, Prophecies was definitely one of the best games of 2005.

Well the problem comes about when Guild Wars fans try to claim it is an MMO. And when you do that, you automatically throw it into the ring with WoW and every other MMO out there. Compared to that, GW doesn't hold it's weight. It's pretty obvious why GW has no monthly fee. Although the monthly fee is a moot point really, as even some free MMO's are more fun that GW. I've tried the closed beta for Allods Online, and that's a pretty good game for being completely free (it's going to be free even after beta). Although Allods is a pretty big WoW ripoff, but it's a lot better than other wannabe WoW killers that cost money.

I prefer Guild Wars over World of Borecraft and its cartoony graphics:)

Guild Wars is better than most pay-to-play rip-off MMO's, ArenaNet has constantly taken care to improve the game since inception.

Wonderful game, particularly the original game, now called Prophecies. GW2 will deliver a final sendoff knockout punch to WoW and its expansions. First one didn't but the second one will.

Ironically GW2's biggest competitor will be Blizzard's own Diablo 3.

If you think the PvP is awful, you're not doing it right. GW PvP is probably the best PvP for a roleplaying game available.

I will agree with you had I been as delusional bud. GW2 biggest competitor will still be World of Warcraft, but I do hope GW2 will be a far more suited game for Gamers that desires a true MMO experience.

I watched high end PvP for Guild Wars(or at least I hoped it was high end PvP, lol..) and it still seem very basic to a PvP system like Arena in WoW that has much more depth and is more dynamic. Yes, the game is free, but it's hard to enjoy it when you've experienced a game with a far better system.

If there are any recommendations to enjoying Guild Wars, granted with my background in WoW, then indeed it will be marvelous to know.

If the PvP game-play in Guild Wars is so simplistic and "basic" then why on earth would you need or want add-ons and macros?

They are very useful that open many possibilities for both PvE and PvP. When it comes to high end play, macros and addons are essential for me, personally.

i don't get how the combat is bad?

everyone says 'ooh dragon age combat so fun". well guildwars is exactly the same systembut smoother with 100x more skills to choose from? and its multiplayer? i mean seriously?

if you dont like that sort of thing i really suggest you uninstall because theres really no reason for you to waste your time.

Ill say that after playing guildwars i find the dragon age combata little sluggish. I don't really play it anymore due to the lack of additional content to explore and the dwindling player base.

I also highly dislike this micro transactions thing they got going. They always come up with excuses "oh theres only 2 people working on guildwars 1 and non of them are programmers" and guess whos fault that is. But then they introduce all these new skins, costumes, character redos that they said they couldnt code the moment micro transactions are involved. end off-topic rant

For once I actually agree with you. :o

The PVP combat is extremely well balanced and completely dependant on builds, team strategy and player skill - unlike, say, WoW's, where the victor tends to be the one with the best gear.

Anyway, the game is stale and dying now, but back in the day it was fantastic. It might be worth playing through as a lead-in to Guild Wars 2, but there isn't much in it anymore for more casual players.

Oh the good old days. I cant wait to for the unvieling of GW2. I'm so there.

I can't really comment on what Guild Wars is like now. I played it for over 2 years and enjoyed it immensely. But I did pretty much all I wanted to do, and sure I go back to it every now and then, but I got many games I want to enjoy and also need to maintain a social life, so I don't die a lonely gamer. :)

Its a game I will never forget.

crazymaghie123

I'd go to www.guildwars2.com and watch the new trailer, the game looks incredible to be honest

And the PvP system of Guild Wars was something I always enjoyed, it wasn't something you just jumped into, you had to know the builds of 8 skills that might be used by good teams and find a way to combat it, using stronger skills and glyphs that would nullify the opponents strongest attack etc.

As for PvE, I enjoyed it a lot with friends or a large guild with a friendly community, at this time I'm finished everything so I got bored and stopped but at it's peak it was the most enjoyable game I've ever played putting in 1000+ hours in total over the 10 characters that I reguraly switched between

Though playing it after WoW gives it a bad look, because of the lack of differentiated items and massive raid groups.

Though Guild Wars 2 is for sure gonna be something to raise the bar of MMO's

I'm with you GP, I'm all set for GW2.

Well my Mesmer (my first and fav character) only has 18 Titles, I guess I could go back and get some cheaptitles for Hall of Monuments.
