My poor 7900GS is artifacting and dieing after the abuse that it has had since it was purchased in 2007. I'm looking for a new graphics card. I don't need much more power than the 7900 had (I play old games), and I would prefer a cheaper/cooler/more efficient card. Any recommendations? Thanks lots!

as said before, aGF 260 216 core (the last part is important)

Its a great deal better then the 7900, but this one is cheap, and insanely effective.

otherwise there is the ati 4870. its about as effective as the 260, And they are pretty similar price wise. Since you are familir with GF I would pick the 260.

He said he didn't need much more power..... A 9800gtx should be fine if you don't need much more power but it's still atleast twice as powerful than what you currently have

Heck even a 9800GT would be a major upgrade. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4486373&CatId=3585 9800GT $85

Splurge another $15 and pick up this HD 4770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121317 This card will run anything you play and everything currently out there without much of a problem.....also, it's a world of difference better then the 3870.

Anything at or slightly over $100 - 4850, 4770, 9800GTX, etc. - are all great buys and, even though you think you don't need it, will run circles around the 7900GS.

GTS 250 is about the price of a 9800gtx and nearly the same...

$124.99, $109.99 after MIR - GTS 250

$99 - 4850

recommend one of those two, or if you have more money:

$179.99 - GTX 260 216 core

139-129 with MIR - 4870

Wouldn't go much lower than a 4850...

I'd go for a 4770. It's dirt cheap, runs everything, and would be a nice little upgrade to what your currently running. And, temperatures on the single slot card are extremely low. :)
