I have an Intel D945GBI motherboard that currently has a Pentium D running on it. Now, I would like to know if that motherboard could support a Core 2 Duo. I know normally I could look this up on the Intel website, but my mother board model doesn't show up anywhere on the site.

My second question deals with the resolution of my monitor. I have a 20" Samsung SyncMaster 204T LCD with a max resolution of 1600x1200. Now, would my money be well spent if I bought the 640MB EVGA 8800GTS or would I be better off with the 320MB version.

Once again, thank you in advance for your help.

I believe the 945 chipset does support the Core 2 Duo E4k series processors - I'm not 100% sure on that though, someone else will have to confirm that.

go with the 640MB GTS.the more memory a GFX card has the higher the resoultion. a 320MB GTS wouldn't do so well at 1600x1200. although a 320MB GTS out benches a 640MB GTS at 1080x1024

It's not true. They're around even, but the 320 definately doesn't out bench the 640.

if you go to guru3d.com and look at the bench marks for the 320MB GTS and the 640MB GTS you'll be supeised. the same thing with an ATI X1650XT the 256MB version out benches the 512MB version, at low resolution.

I dont think you'd really need a 640mb at that res.

Maybe 1680 X 1050 or higher it would be worth it..

Well would 1600x1200 be considered a low resolution?

No, that's a fairly high resolution. Enough that you'll see an improvement from the 320MB to 640MB 8800GTS - especially in future games.
