No need to get a WD Black for storage and a 22$ mousepad,it's useless.MonsieurX

Sorry, but I think you gave her a bad advice here.

Her alternative storage is a 128GB SSD which won't be enough for general storage. She definitely need a high-capacity HDD for storage, Western Digital is an excellent brand, and the Black series is proven to be very good in performance wise. I think she made wise choices there.

Using the mouse without a proper mat is not good for gaming. Mouse mats gives you better control of your mouse.

On topic to GamerGal, your list looks good.

----------

Are you sure you want 16GB of RAM? It seems like overkill, but if that's what you want, that's fine. For most, 8GB is a better choice. No applications come close to 8GB, unless you're running a virtual machine with lots of applications running at the same time.

I just realised that the WD Black Hard Drive isn't available until Monday (4 Days). I will just wait until Monday to buy the parts.

I want to take the opportunity to fully thank you guys. Without your help, I would still be buying an iMac.

You have helped me endlessly and I thank you so much for that. My true life as a gamer is just about to begin.

Once I am all set up, I will upload some pictures and give you an update. :D

Extremely grateful,

Whatever you have done with the text color has made it invisible with my color scheme. I can see the links, but nothing else.

On topic to GamerGal, your list looks good.

120gb SSD is enough for OS,few games and most used programs. Unless you like to have all your games installed at once, you don't need a fast drive for storage. And for the mouse mat, waste your money like you want!

I'm sure she's going to install games on the WD HDD since 120GB is very little for the whole thing.

WD Black is a good option for performance benefits such as faster loading. I do agree that the Black series would be illogical purely for storage, but it's very likely that she'll use it for games due to how little the SSD is.

Solution: get rid of the black, don't get the PRO version of the SSD. With money saved, get a 256gb SSD ;)

I agree that it would be better to get cheaper Seagate or Western Digital Blue 1TB drive then put the saved money (and maybe a bit extra) towards a 240-256GB SSD, much more useful for not too much more money.

It depends on how many games the TC is planning to install.

It isn't much more to swap the SSD and HD to 256Gb and 1TB.

As for your question, I plan on having ALOT of games.

Examples: COD:BO2, Battlefield 3 & 4, Sims 3, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Guild Wars 2, Just Cause 2 & 3, DayZ standalone, Skyrim, Minecraft, Terraria, Primal Carnage, Halo 4 etc.

Lots of games as you can see. I want to make up for lost time.

So should I go for a 1TB WD Green and a 256GB SSD. I will keep adding to that list of games as time goes on.

Will it fit on the SSD?

And is the WD Black fine for storage of files etc.??????

Will you play them at the same time? ie,do you always switch from games to games? Black is fine for storage but it's overpriced for such a function.

Looks good GamerGal. No offense, but haven't you asked about this build of yours like a million times already? :P When are you going to finalize your build? hehe. Just buy it already before something gets released and you change your mind again. Cheers.

I can get a 2TB WD Green for the same as a 1TB Black.

I will go with a 2TB Green for other storage and a 256GB SSD.

I am going to have them all at once as far as I know. I will swap between games fairly often and come back to certain ones aswell.

The 265GB should be fine for that? Should I put all my games on the SSD, or just the ones that take up more space?

When I built my most recent one I just grabbed a 128GB samsung and a 2TB seagate from PCCG for $99. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=19554 its the same price as the green you're looking at but is 7200rpm instead of the greens 5400 - 5900rpm (depending on power saving functions). I have all my services (steam, origin, uplay) installed to the 2TB with all my games (currently 354GB worth) and if you're like me with the quotas here in aus, you most likely dont want to be uninstalling, reinstalling just to play again. take that FWIW.

So I go for the smaller 128GB SSD with the 2TB Seagate, or keep the 256GB.

I will have a lot of games. Am I supposed to put them on the SSD? or just stuff like the OS and Photoshop etc.

That would depend on your preference. I just use my SSD for the OS and other programs. All my games go on the 2TB. I have 90GB free atm on my ssd.

In which case, should I go for the 128GB or the 256GB??? I am happy to pay the extra money for it but only if it is worth it.

If you don't want to uninstall/reinstall games all the time you will want a decent speed hard drive alongside the SSD (whether you get 128GB or 256GB). As long as it's not a power saving drive like a green it should be fine, so if you can get a samsung/seagate for cheaper than the WD black you may as well.
