I'm working on building my first PC, and am trying to think of ways to shave of money without hurting the overall power of the system. I'm planning to buy two Nvidia GeForce 9600GT 1GBs to SLI for my GPU (Was originally thinking a GTX 295), but cannot settle on a power supply. I have been planning on getting a Kingwin Mach 1 Modular 1220 Watt Power Supply, but am now wondering if I really need that kind of wattage, or if I'd be better of going with less power and upgrading in a couple years when that kind of power gets cheaper. Here's the rest of my current plans for the build:
- Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz Processor
-MSI X58 Platinum SLI LGA 1366 Core i7 Motherboard
- Corsair 6 GB (3*2) RAM
- Western Digital Caviar 160 GB Hard Drive
- Sony Blu-Ray Drive
Do I need all 1220 Watts, or will I be able to get the job done with less? Thanks in advance for any help.nickkak
A 650W should do.

dont get 9600s for sli. that's kinda boring. go with a 260 core 216. it will blow those out of the water. you can get an XFX gtx 260 core 216 for 245 shipped. roughly the same price as the 9600s in sli.
p.s. a silverstone ST70F is more than enough for your system.
