THese ignorant posts are getting annoying and to those who play you sound like a babbling troll. While I don't think we can dub it best mmo yet, it certainly has had the best launch I have ever seen. If it only lasts a year then who cares? Too early for this thread.

Even if he's trolling there's still alot of truth in that, and I think you've already heard every elaboration on the matter. Beta didnt feel fresh at all, as of "best launch ever" IDK, I wasn't there.Best at being a game that has already failed. Rifthammer Onine uses the same clunky engine as the game that failed before it.judahstarguyIf it does, they've certainly made a lot of improvements to it. I had.. numerous.. technical issues with Warhammer. That's probably the main reason that stopped me from playing.

Beta didnt feel fresh at all, as of "best launch ever" IDK, I wasn't there. You weren't there at launch and are going off a beta experience to judge the game. This is why I confront your views and others like you, very few people who gave the game an honest effort came away with this type of opinion on it. I am cool with people not liking a game, but all I have seen since release are these generic comments from people who obviously have not played the game. I don't count betas as playing an mmo enough to give a true review on it.Nothing is better then Ultima Online as far as MMO's go imo :P
Rift does look pretty cool though! Last thing I wanted is antoher mmo atm, but this looks pretty fun. Ill get The old Republic, but I just cant seem to get into these modern mmos these days for some reason.

what is so clunky about it, it is smooth and works extremely well and looks decent.

yeah, i hate it when people judge a game before they even play it, or play it for any length of time
"This game sucks, I got to level 4 and it was boring" doesnt allow for enough time to let one's character and experience develop, which is crucial is an MMO
"This game sucks, I was in the beta, I'd know" makes no room for improvements, etc, the developer has made
On that note, Rift is a solid MMO. Its fun, simple, rewarding, and casual-friendly which is all I look for in an MMO.
For those of you that agree with the TC. I want a list of MMO's you've played F2P and P2P. And the amount of time you spent with each. Please try to be honest. Thanks.Elann2008
Earth and Beyond, four months
Auto Assault, until it shut down (I think it was like 6 months, I cant remember...it was soooooooo much fun though)
EVE Online, two months
Lord of the Rings Online, five months
Pirates of the Burning Sea, one month
World of Warcraft, off and on for 5+ years
Champions Online (F2P)
Im missing a few others, and I've tried every single free trial for what seems like the last ten years or so, but thats about it
With that said, I dont think Rift is the best MMO released. However, it is definately one of the best.
*Oh, and Tabula Rasa...now there is a game that should have had the support Blizzard or Trion could provide. I miss that game so so much.
i have yet to try it but i am very interested in it. Would those who have played it say that it is a MMO that is much better with friends or just as good by yourself.
adamlynch
the community is really awesome, actually, so friends or not you are sure to have a good time.
as far as with friends, I am sure it would be as fun as any good MMO would be when played with friends. The second they get a refer a friend program going I am calling my buddy

Thanks mrbojangles. Nice list you got there. Former World of Warcraft player myself, Warhammer Online, and Guild Wars (if you want to consider it an MMO). I've been watching a good deal of gameplay vids and it looks fun. Not sure what it does different from other MMOs though. I hear about this Rift gameplay design. I don't fully understand it. Is Rift PVE-centric or PVP-centric? I'm more of a PVE guy but I could tell you in full honestly that I pvp'ed a TON in World of Warcraft, although I would pick doing raids over pvp any day. PVP, more or less was down time but I dedicated so much time into WOW's pvp system. I was a Grand Marshal with my Human Warrior in the vanilla WOW days. I kinda regret that I invested that much time into it but it's been done. :P I wanted to give Rift a try. With D2D's discount, it's even more tempting. Hmmm.Best MMO...well idk, I've only played wow & aion. Is it a clone of sorts..yes! That being said it's also a lot of fun to play!!! Graphics are rather good...but you really need to tweak your video settings manually. So, I'm happy having fun...still waiting to see kotor mmo!

Hmmm.rifts are a little gimmicky, I wont deny that...Rift is an excellent, albeit ordinary, MMO if you discount the rifts.
with that said, it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN!
Rifts are essentially these portals that opene up all over the land at fairly frequent intervals (there seems to always be at least one open on each land) and enemies of the respective planar dimenions (death, fire, nature, water, etc) flood out in waves.
Sometimes the rifts are easy (with nonelite creatures a player or two can defeat), sometimes they are more difficult (with numerous elites you need a balanced group to take on). The beauty comes in the "public group" feature that allows a player to join a group at will without having to ask. Its refreshing, and very nice being able to group effortlessly to defeat the enemy.
There are also invasions, where planar NPCs will attack your strongholds and villages, and you must defeat them, and at least once a day there is this big elaborate event where you must group up to close like 8 rifts, 4 checkpoints, 50 invasions, and finally defeat some boss. I did my first today and it was a lot of fun riding into battle alongside 30 other raid members, healing and killing foes.
Basically, rifts and events are like fun, quick, and interesting instances and raids. And you get rewards dependng on how much you contribute, usually in the form of special currency used to buy cool planar goods, and rare artifacts to boost your power.
Rift is a good game because it nails the fundamentals extremely well. But Rift is a great game because of the little things like taking five minutes away from questing to close a rift, finding artifacts scattered around, completeting a cool daily, and discovering puzzles.
*oh I also did my first dungeon today...it was fantastic.
**I Dont really like MMOs for my "pvp" fix (I play shooters for that :P ), but Rift definately feels like a solid PvE experience thus far. Quests are diverse, interesting, and while grinding is going to occur in any MMO, Rift feels less grindy than anything ive played so far.

Sounds like my kinda game. I'll pick this one up after I finish Dragon Age 2. Thanks mate!I made it to lvl 40 in beta and just got to lvl 40 again playing as a rogue. Game is very fun. I would say if you like WoW then you will probably like this as well. It has a lot of the same concepts such as easy lvling that can be done entirely solo all the way to max lvl. The instances like WoW will require a group. The battle grounds are called warfronts and are very similar to the ones in WoW such as capture the flag and holding bases. The game took a lot from WoW and Warhammer. It's nothing new but, it does all the old formulas very well if not better. Quest are interesting and it actually got me to read some of them instead of just blasting through them. The most unique thing they have are the rifts which other posters have already gone over.
It's not anything Like?!? It runs on the exact same game engine. Credibility? At least I'm not a blind fanboi.judahstarguyAre you going to say I know you are but what am I next? I don't care what engine it is said to run on, it DOES NOT play like, look like, act like, resemble in ANY way Warhammer Online. I played Warhammer online from release up until last January and I also PLAY Rift, unlike you. I know for a fact you have zero credibility with these claims because they simply are not true. Warhammer after 2 years still feels like a beta compared to Rift, they are two completely different games. Fanboi that.

♥♥♥♥♥ Finally someone besides me saying this. Yea it took you awhile, wonder why that is? Hmmmmmm....any rocket scientists want to help us out here?Fair assessment. No one is saying the game is revolutionary, it takes a little from each mmo feature that has been in every game and puts it all together in one nice polished package. Saying it is a clone of any one game is ignorant. Most mmo's are clones of each other anyway so what's the big deal? Fun is fun.I made it to lvl 40 in beta and just got to lvl 40 again playing as a rogue. Game is very fun. I would say if you like WoW then you will probably like this as well. Only mmo's that look vaguely fun: GW2, Tera (tera has some issues with clothing...)
Rift is the same boring combat style as WoW, click target, then mindlessly press abilities 'til it dies. >.>

this. is. so. true. I bought rift and when i saw that it played just like wow i immediately shelved the game and went back to playing guildwars and waiting for guildwars2.

Was 2.1k 3v3 rogue(c-swords{me}), warrior, shaman(resto) in season 2.
I basically quit progression after 12/14 hm in ulduar (naxx gear progression, not ulduar)
5 85's (now unsubscribed) 7 80{wotlk}, 5 70{bc}, 3 60{vanilla}, All classes past 60, over 1000 levels worth of leveling. (including alts above 25)
Ive had it since a little before launch and have to say im loving it.
Im rolling a pally/riftblade/warlord right now but only using my pally and riftblade trees.
The community is wonderful, combat is very smooth, and the story line is awesome. Every hour or so youll be walking around doing a quest and all the sudden 15 rifts open up, then you gotta seal them and get rid if invasions, then you fight a raid boss! To me thats kept me on the edge of my seat.
Only issue to me so far is the PVP is very unbalanced..with that said i played WoW for 6 years since midnight release and the PVP sucked in that for a few months before i even enjoyed it a little. As a tank, basically any other spec destroys me in PVP and although i dont expect it to be easy there should always be a way, but i would be stunned and brought down in 5 seconds. Also, this isnt a huge deal at all, but the weapons look the same to me at lvl 8 as they do lvl 50.
So yeah i love it, and as long as trion keeps patching it and working out PVP ill be happy.

You can track it from warcraftrealms (or what ever that wow stalker sight was), It was born the day Darrowmere went live, as Freezerburn, moved to Hakkar(renamed to Lumicide), then Frostmane, back to Hakkar then to Mug'thol...
Sure I could have just picked the character at random, but, can you trust me? I'm not gonna give you my account just info so you can peruse through all my characters and achievements.
If you want, you can tell me to put on any pve set in the game (precata and -naxx40).
