That CPU is insanely old, so I'm not sure it would be worth upgrading.

Well thats what I thought as well, but as far as I'm aware, I'm not gonna get a PC that can run most new games on high smoothly for 500-600 bucks. I'm right about that arn't I?

I'm not gonna pretend like I know as much as some others on the forums. But I think that if you salvaged what ever parts you could like the disc drive, hard drive, and possibly the PSU. You could probably build something that could run most games (console ports) on high at playable frame rates especially if you use used parts. And you could sell the rest of your current parts on ebay to widen your budget. I built my rig last August starting out with 600-700 dollars and just from upgrading parts here and there it's gotten a lot lot more powerful.

Thanks CJ I will keep that in mind. But if anyone does know of a good gaming PC for 500-600 dollars that would be even more convenient. I've been dealing with this old computer for far to long now.

Probably not, although I'm not too good with US prices.

Something like this would be pretty good I suppose - the 5770 is decent enough to run newer games, but I doubt it would handle high AA very well.

i would recommend cpu next on that machine. gpu would be solid and ram is more than satisfactory. for your origional question total war shogun 2 would run nicely on high or max as would any other rts you wish to name. with such a system you could easily play any game you want on high or better with some or all aa and af at your current resolution of 1440 x 900

as for a cpu updare id wait till say q3 2012 before doing that. id probably get a piledriver based cpu or if the price is right an fx-8120/8150 bulldozer
