Shame... some people believed it was going to be the next Diablo MMO... I wished it too...

Isn't this a bit late?dnuggs40It was announced long ago.... this is a NEW announcement that confirms it....please read the article first
To me it was always confirmed...only the most fanatical thought there was any chance lol. Anyways, if I remember the people from the HG:L forums, there is someone somewhere claiming the article is wrong :Ddnuggs40I don't play it.... but for all those people who have invested time in it... I hope too the article is wrong, and someone keeps at least one server up....
That's not what happened...not even close.Same as Tabula Rasa... all mmo-s need colossal and constant work to keep them up... developers who think they'll just make another game and move on to the next one end up shutting down their own projects. Alive example right here.

I know, I don't know how it happended at all, sorry for making such a direct answer...
I just said that games are generally being shut down because of the irresponsibility of the developers, thinking that they can make money when there's things like WoW around. They have to be ready to take the blow, or make their game innovative enough for it to hold up itself.
i remember being REALLY excited about the game, then i played the demo and was completely turned off from the game.redbaron3The online portion was MUCH better than the single player demo. They would've been better off without releasing that crappy demo. The actual game was very very fun.
I never played it, and I guess I won't now. Sucks to see any game get "shut down". I've been looking for a Diablo like game like Sacred 2 but everyone says that games online is dead too. I want a new Diablo game but your best bet seems to be either play Diablo thats out now or wait till D3.

No the full game was a bug ridden mess, certainly for the first few months after launch. It got better after they patched it up, but that was like 4 months late and by then all the damage had been done. I did read a review where the reviewer said all the main issues he had had with it had been fixed and people should give it another go if they still had it, but it really was too late.
The whole concept of the game was too confused - it didn't know what it was meant to be. A diablo clone? multiplayer or MMO? free online or subscription? Too much crap that confused people, and too many bugs to make people want to stay and find out. Flagship got funding for the game on the back of their staff having worked on Diablo, but the game they made fell way short.
It's really a shame. The game is actually pretty good now. The bugs at launch killed this game IMO. Thorough testing could have made this a AAA title.
PC Gamer magazine had this game on its front cover one issue. The game was overhyped and didnt live to what it promised. The result the game had to shut down. Maybe other developers learn what not to do when making a game using Hellgate as an example.Jd1680a
Yeah, they gave it like an 89% or so, PC Gamer isn't what they used to be in the 90's, they give better scores for better money. Sad but I'm sure its true.
Remember DOOM III? 94% in PC Gamer for getting the exclusive first review.
I bought Hellgate two months ago for ten dollars, and immediately patched it. I was shocked at how well-polished this game was - in particular, I was surprised at how many graphics effects were happening all at the same time, and yet how smooth the game was... never experienced a single crash to desktop either. The game was remarkably bug free.
I played all weekend long and just could not stop. Best ten dollars I've spent in my entire life.
Now is the time to buy this game and play it if you haven't already. Run to the store and grab a copy before they're all gone. Single player is just awesome.
It was a fun, mindless game that was just good. Not great, but good. It didnt require a huge amount of time to put in to feel rewarded, either.
Im gonna miss it.

Dude... AFBrat77... fix your sig. It makes the forums go all underline crazy...It is indeed sad, but expected. I was a DII junkie for so many years and basically the next game by the same guys was ah.. It came close, but the biggest downfall had to be the environments. It just felt claustrophobic all the damn time. I felt they did capture the gameplay, but the actual playing field was just too confined and overall became extremely redundant.
I really wish the original creators of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo didn't leave Blizzard. I know some of them are still there, but too many left. If SC2 and Diablo 3 don't meet my expectations, I will forever turn my back on Blizzard. WC3 and WoW are two strikes in a row, but I guess have to give D3 a chance if SC2 fails in my eyes.
Bah.
Warcraft 3: one of the most played RTS in the world...and the first to mix RPG/RTS correctly... WoW: played by millions yeah... 2 strikes in a row by Blizzard. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean they are bad games...It is indeed sad, but expected. I was a DII junkie for so many years and basically the next game by the same guys was ah..
