As the topic states is it a decent RPG? It looks pretty good and for $15 seems like a decent price. Really the only reason I'm not certain is because it uses F***ing TAGES for DRM and a game has to be damn good before I'll put that garbage on my PC.

Meh, judgment got the better of me. Not buying a game with ridiculous DRM... Tages, SecuROM, Starforce, whatever...

What DRM? It hasn't caused me any problems. Risen is basically Gothic 4 (I knows there's Arcania: Gothic 4, but that's not really related to the Gothic series). It's far better optimised and designed than that travesty that is Gothic 3. If you liked Gothic 1 and 2 you'll probably like Risen.

Yes its worth picking up, I really enjoyed the game world, the gameplay, the rpg elements and the voice acting (Golum from LOTR).

Beat the game twice and nto had any issues with drm or crashes.

DRM Oh i had no idea? Good game you will have a great 1st play through. My only issue with the game is the lack of items available IE Armour Weapons etc tho that may get better in the later chapters. Although i had explored pretty much everywhere i lost my save game due to a Double Hard Drive death.

I personally couldn't get into it, but it's one of those games I'll definitely give another chance in the future.

An absolute must buy if you enjoy Gothic, but you should definitely do a bit more research into it if you never played that game, because it just gives you the basics and leaves you to learn the rest of the game the hard way, and its a bit different from your typical RPG game.

Don't worry about the DRM though, its pretty much nonexistent (never even knew it used TAGES).

This game reminds me of The Witcher for some reason. Looks like a really good game.. and I think I'll buy it. I wouldn't have hesitated if it was only 7.50.

You can also try Two Worlds 2 and Divinity 2 if you decide not to buy Risen.

Both of which also have ridiculous DRM as well. I am really sick of 3rd party games on Steam using a second DRM process. It is annoying and I'm not willing to deal with the stupid drivers they install and activation limits. I remember back when SecuROM was burning out people's CD drives, nto to mention the bugs that pop up frequently, I think I'l pass. I ended up buying Alpha Protocol since SEGA removed the DRM from the Steam version with the last patch.

Owned the retail version so didn't have to deal with intrusive DRM but the game itself is what Gothic 4 should have been. a tad bit on the unforgiving side when it comes to combat, multiple ways to handle quests. However the 2nd half of the game is pretty weak storywise.
