The tittle says it all. Which should I save my money on? I played the demo for Risen and was quite impressed with it.

Well no one has played Mass Effect 2. I think it will be awesome. Though there is always a chance it will be terrible.

The incredibly high hype always scares me when I'm purchasing a game. I didn't exactly like mass effect 1 a lot but it was a good game.

I didn't enjoy the original ME all that much and won't be getting it until it hits the bargain bin in a year or so. Risen was alright, had some bugs and wasn't as interesting at the Gothic series but still overall a good game. If you enjoyed the Risen demo then you'll enjoy the full game and the only way I'd recommended ME2 over it is if you loved ME1.

I found ME1 to be ok but not great. Gothic series are indeed awesome already.

I wan't a big fan of ME so most probably will be skipping it. I have already bought risen, haven't had a chance to play it a lot, but from what I played, it seems to be decent.

If that's the case then get Risen and and pick up ME2 when it goes on sale or hits the bargain bin.

Both. Get Risen while waiting for Mass Effect 2. I'm sure you'll love both. :)

Well, if you didn't like Mass Effect, then ME2 probably won't change your mind. ME2 seems like it's more of the same, which for me is A VERY GOOD THING. It's just a sequel to carry the story further.

Judging from your preferences you just mentioned, get Risen.

Having played the Risen demo, and playing the original ME, I would go for ME2. It seems to me that ME2 will be better. But who knows, and of course everyone's taste is different.

Of course I haven't played Mass Effect 2 but comparing Mass Effect to Risen I much prefer Risen. I actually prefer Risen to Dragon Age: Origins, it's my RPG of 2009. Honestly though you can't go wrong with either, but personally I say grab yourself a copy of Risen.

Well, from my experience, I know Risen is a great game and imo has more depth and longevity than ME1.

However, ME1 was more intense and consistently entertaining; linear RPGs just make more sense to me than open-world ones.

I say wait for ME2, but Risen is not a bad choice. Especially if you didnt like ME1.

We're talking about Bioware here: BG, NWN, DA:O, ME1.

People are forgetting that ME's a trilogy: the story won't be completed until the end of ME3.

Risen is definitely the most underrated game of the year and much better then it appears to be. You want a game that doesnt hold your hand with interactive combat, storyline with alot of quests and side quests, this is the game to get.

Mass Effect = short but very high quality (side quests are awful)

Risen = long, a bit unpolished but very enjoyable nonetheless.
