Hi guys!

I've got a simple question: I would like to know if there's some RPG, online or not, without magic, spells and all that stuff.

Thanks, bye.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines has very little magic, and what magic there is can be interpreted as not being magic. It's also in my opinion the greatest RPG ever made.

It's supernatural more than fantasy. You may like it.

hmm my best advice .... buy warcraft 3 and play custom maps, there are a lot of nice rpgs there :P

because rpg without magic is pretty rare .... because lvling up guns is boring

There are Fallout 1+2, which are great and then there's a game call The Fall, which was not as good. I tried it shortly after release but quit early (too many bugs, did look like fun... maybe they have fixed the bugs in patches, I don't know)

I consider the Force to be a type of magic ;) As for the original question, Deus Ex (and Deus Ex: IW), as someone already pointed out. You have special abilities in that game as well, but they're all actually "implants" that you can choose to install in your char's body, so it's ok :P At least you can't shoot lightning from your eyes and balls of fire from that other place.

Oblivion has magic but you can choose not to use it. If you're looking for something with no trace of that sort of thing whatsoever go with Fallout.

Next to the ones already mentioned, The Witcher has almost no magic. Your character has four (or was it five?) spells but you don't need to use them at all.

Mount&Blade has no magic involved, its just sword, axes, bows, and shields, no supernatural elements involved, but of course its still in beta, but right now you can play the game for free, its relatively fun:

http://www.taleworlds.com/

other rpgs would be fallout, deus ex, space rangers 2 if you can consider it a rpg, EVE Online I beleive is a rpg, or at least has some rpg elements, no magic involved, just ships and trading,--{this has been edited for having wrong assumptions in it, carry on}--thats about all the games I can think of, magic has always been a major element in RPGs, probaly always will.

Age of Conan will have loads of magic. Half of the cIassess are some kind of casters. Age of Conan is sword and sorcery, which is a subgenre of low fantasy. Only thing that makes Conan different from high fantasy is the lack of orcs and elves.

okay, I see, then I shall take age of conan off my "lack of magic" list.

Ok, thankyou very much to all of you, I didn't expect so many replies :)

However, funny thing because when I asked about RPG without magic I supposed that fantasy elements were included, and many of you replied: that game (with fanasy characters) has magic but it's not strictly necessary to play the game. Sorry if I didn't explain myself correctly. It doesn't matter, I appreciate your help, anyway.

Oh, I forgot to add one to the list: Pirates of the Burning Sea. What do you think about it?

I'll count with your suggestions. Thanks again.

Disappointing game. Naval combat is great, but everything else is bad. No reason to play it when there's EVE offering much more depth.

KOTOR uses the force, though. It's not classified as magic or "spells".

:( PotBS: Well, I've heard a lot of different opinions, there are lovers and haters.

By the way, I would like to find something without magic... and without aliens. Yes, yes, I know, I'm too way snooty for almost everyone, but those are my likings...

I guess it would be great if you and your Spongebob friend release a MMORPG. They talk and they are crazy, but they don't use sorcery and they aren't aliens.

I leave now, there's a Krabby Patty waiting for me. Thanks.

how about just dont play any rpgs? your denying yourself some of the best ones ever made with these sort of restrictions, why do you think having some form of magic in the game will ruin the enjoyment? OMG you're not allergic are you?

id suggest the witcher, only 2 spells are really worth using (out of the 5) and the combat is all sword based basically, their really is no emphasis on magic.

actually a fantasy rpg lacking magic sounds like a intresting concept, it could be more of a challenge possibly, a fantasy rpg lacking elves, orcs, and magic that would be a refreshing change, games need to stop worshipping tolkien and come up with something new.

you guys missed my point, im not saying all rpgs have to have magic. im trying to point out that magic in an rpg isnt what defines it and shouldnt stop you from playing some of the classics out there. sure some may have a bit too much emphasis on it which people may like but that shouldnt stop you from playing say the witcher just because it has a few spells in it

Yea, that's why I said not very much... it's an inbetweener... And the little spells that they did have wasn't totally crucial. We all know it was all about the guns and lightsabers ;)

I guess that "if you don't like magic don't play RPGs" is not the best answer... It seems some of you become "violent" when somebody complains about magic, as if it was a sin to suggest that a RPG wouldn't be an RPG without magic.

I have my likings as I said, and I don't like it, so I'm in my right to ask if there's some RPG without it, and that's it. If somebody likes magic, go and play games with magic, but let others dislike it if they want to.

I'm not trying to force existing games to lack magic, I'M JUST ASKING, PLEASE!!

Well, I don't want to incite profitless arguments so... thankyou very much and take care.:D

Yes, I'm trying now. I think it would be great with an online mode, but I'm afraid there's too many people suggesting that and forum people are beginning to get tired about that subject :D. Let's wait to the second one, then.

I would not consider Freelancer as a rpg.It's more like a free-roaming sci-fi action game with little rpg flavour.But still it's a great game :) .

Yes, it seems is quite hard to find a 100% RPG without magic and not centered in action, with just some strokes of RPG.

Oops ... hit Quick Reply by accident ...

Just wanted to say how great it was to see this topic posted on the forum!

I too am looking for an RPG or adventure game that doesn't incorporate the use of magic, and am glad to see all the helpful suggestions! Since there has been quite a bit of time since that last post, perhaps there are some new games that don't use Magic in their gameplay? If so, I would love to see some more suggestions from you guys!

Man, I cannot think of many rpgs without magic. Stalker, Fallout and Deux Ex. It's tough. There's not a lot out there. I played the demo for Mount and Blade, which has no magic...but it's pretty mediocre.

yeah, that and people may be mad at you for reviving an old thread. Anyway, Mass Effect I reccomend very reluctantly, because it's an RPG on rails, very raily rails. If you're not taken back by D&D then definatly F1&2. I've heard of Anachronox which I haven't experienced personally but heard good things nevertheless. There is also Arcanum, which is kind of funny in this regard since it pits technology against magic, and you can go either magic route or technology route or a mix. That's also an isometric game. If you're also looking for depth , and not necessarily uber gra[fix], then Fallouts1&2 as well as Arcanum are sure bets

The upcoming Alpha Protocol, should fit the bill. Its a moderna day RPG with no magic. Same with The Agency - and MMO Spy game. While theres no magic all the cool little gadgets do come close to supernatural abilities.
