I'm hoping this is the right forum for this thread...I've been wanting to play Neverwinter Nights (1 and 2), Diablo II, and Divine Divinity, only to find out that they don't run on craptastic Vista. I know there might be patches for Neverwinter to run on Vista, but I don't think I would be able to get the other 2 games working. In other words, I don't feel like taking the chance of buying them only finding out that they won't work.

I do have ES: Oblivion, and even though that game originally didn't run on Vista OS, I managed to reinstall it, run it in compatibility mode, and patch it up. Although I haven't played it too much and it doesn't crash anymore, Oblivion has been running smoothly on my PC.

But I am looking for an RPG that may be similar to the top 3 games, that I would be able to run on Vista with no problem. I don't really care about how old said game is, but I wouldn't be able to get anything extremely recent because my graphics card is meh (I would probably need a game that came before 2008 ).

Gah, why was I plagued with this terrible software.:?

Huh? I use Vista and I don't have a problem running any of the games you mentioned. Sounds like you have hardware or driver issues.

Hhm, I don't have any of these games yet, so I don't know how they would play on my laptop. I just did research on the software issues and found that people have a lot of problems with these games playing on vista.

Check out MS's compatibility patches on their website. The Witcher was under the games for windows live banner, so it should work just fine.

maybe an early build of vista

try doing windows update until you have service pack 2 installed

that fixes everything and vista should run fine with that

Vista is not the problem here, you need to patches your softwares, that's all. There is a sticky thread called "PC & Mac Game Requirements 4 - All 'Can My PC Run This Game?' Questions Here" that you can check too. You will find some websites that can check if your PC can run a game before you buy it. Also, I suggest you post your specs in the PC hardware forum, you might have problems with your drivers, hardware or something like that.

Get them from GOG: www.gog.com

It has NWN1 and Divine Divinity, both should run on Vista. The latter may need the old config, but if so it can be found and downloaded with a pertinent Google search.

the games you mentioned also works under my vista 64 bit, there is a possibility that they diddnt right when vista was released, but they do now.

If you are still uncertain, go to www.gog.com they have the nwn1 complete package, and made sure to run on win7 and vista with no problems, the bg and FO1 +2 games are also there, and you should check out Arcanum while youre at it ^^

NWN2 always ran on Vista, altho the game itself was buggy at launch, its not anymore, so no need to worry there :)

And diablo 2 seemed to work fine for me the last time I playied it, It had a color problem, but minimizing and maximizing the game fixed that.
