Are there any good rpgs out there that give you lots of choices and moral decisions that really affects things? I have both KOTOR games, and while I love them both, your choices dont affect anything until the end in KOTOR, and prety much nothing at all in KOTOR 2. I also have Oblivion, and there are no choices at all in that, although i still like it. I like Neverwinter nights 2 (no expansions) Are there any good mods for that that have lots of decisions or anything? Im considering the original NWN as well. I have Fallout 1&2, but Im finding it hard to get into because of the slow pace. And I also have Gothic 3 and like it.

So, in light of what I have and dont have, what would you guys recommend I get (Games or mods)

Get the Witcher, and try to get into Fallout2, once you get use to the slow pace, you will love it.

Slow pace? sigh.. I guess modern RPG's are basically just hack&slash fests with levels then?

Sorry I have a old comp so haven't tried anything beyond NWN1 and there was too much focus on dungeons and hack/slash for me.

the witcher is definitely a must if you're looking for a RPG with mature theme and has moral choices

This is the list I recommend

Deus Ex (an FPSRPG with absolutely no judging, you free to be who you are)

Planescape: torment (probably my favourite RPG for morality)

NWN permium pack is worth picking up as you have moral choices in that but the story carrys on the chapter format.

Vampire: Bloodlines, but more from a character choice although you get moral things as well.

I will dig up some more later

Fable: It's was pretty good with moral choices. Towns people clap when you're good and they run away when you're evil. Certain areas are only unlocked if your good, and certain areas are unlocked if you're evil. There are items in the games that are you may want so bad that you're tempted to cross side, There are also times when you don't know which choices are good or evil. Just like KOTOR!

The Witcher is definitely the first game that comes to mind. It's pretty much unmatched in terms of moral choices and consequences.
Oh, and you should probably get the brilliant expansion pack to NWN2 (Mask of the Betrayer).

As for Mass Effect, it has far less roleplaying than KOTOR - only about three of your actions have any permanent affect in the game, and none of them have particularly important consequences. I wouldn't recommend it.

*Edit* Urgh, forgot to mention Planescape Torment, arguably the best RPG ever. Play it as soon as possible. :P

Erandel

don't forget the first one, Vampire the Masquarade - redemption. Your humanity rating at the end affects which game ending you see. It is also important for some armor you can get and for controling the "beast". If you got low humanity it is a lot easyer to loose controll of your character at which point he starts to kill everything

Jade empire is fairly bland, more than mass effect that was already on my 2008 insipid list. Don't bother with Mass effect if you are looking for moral choice, they will rarely come and the differents dialogues option will rarely make anything change in the game.

I greatly preferred Jade Empire over Mass Effect.
Sure, it was a fairly bland RPG, but at least it had an interesting artsty|e the characters weren't totally wooden, and the sidequests were reasonably fun.

Those hack and slash and shooter RPGs are the only ones I'll tolerate. Whats wrong with them?

I fully heartily recommend The Witcher. Its a long game that you can take your time on... and there are tons of choices you make that effect the game. There aren't really 'alternate endings' per se, but what you do nonetheless changes how the rest of the game plays out. Its also bloody long so you are sure to get your money's worth.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with them. The TC just wants a particular feature in his/her RPG.

I repeat, Fable!

Fallout, Planescape Torment, Arcanum, Mask of the Betrayer for NWN2, Prelude to Darkness, The Witcher, Hammer and Sickle, Tortured Hearts mod for NWN, Gothic 2/3 (perhaps 1, never played it). These all have mediocre to excellent choices and consequences. Avoid Bioware games if you're looking for reactive games like this. A different ending for good/evil like in KOTOR is about the best you're going to get from them. Bethesda too for that matter.

Yeppers, Baldur's Gate 2. The first Baldur's gate as well if you wish.

Maybe the fact that they have little to no RPG elements to begin with?
