When I first played Mass Effect, I beat the entire game without using the cannon on the Mako. I completed every vehicle section using only the machine gun. About 30 seconds after the credits rolled I picked up the manual and read the controls and thought to myself "What the ****, that thing has a cannon?!"

Don't know if this qualifies but I only figured out how to give gifts to party members about 3/4 in to the game...

I'm sure I have more but nothing springs to mind atm.

I can't really think of an instance where I didn't know something was in a game, but I have had times where I didn't want to use a certain feature. For example, squad commands in Mass Effect, or the plasmids in Bioshock.

I had a friend that was pretty inept at video games.

He;

-Didn't know you could repair weapons in Fallout 3

-Didn't know you could arm MCOM's in Bad Company 2

-Didn't know what ammo boxes, defibs or med packs were in BC2

-Never, not once, actually did one of the puzzles in RE4. I always had to do them for him xD

That you can map weapons in 12345678 in fallout 3. I was like "damn i got open the inventory to change guns" and a friend told me that i can use those keys to map guns.

Lock on in World of Tanks, but it's useless anyway so I was mostly frustrated for finding that out.

Binoculars in Crysis. Didn't know I had them until I saw my brother use them.

Definitely the gift-giving in Dragon Age: Origins. I knew you could but I didn't know how. I had no idea you needed to select the party member you wanted to give the gift first...

I used keybinds for inventory items/spells in Oblivion a lot, but I could never figure out how it worked in FO3/FO:NV... :(

I didn't know how cool the Dead Ringer was in TF2 for a very long time.

I remember in NWN2 I was more than half-way through and figured out you could talk to your party members. I missed some other stuff too. Good excuse for another playthrough. :D

Morrowind - I never knew you could assign spells/items/etc to hotkeys until I accidentally hit F1 while playing.. it was a serious DOH! moment (especially considering how long I have played and owned the game, I only figured it out a few years ago).

Believe it or not guys, I played all through Baldurs Gate 1 (up until the first cave level and boss) WITHOUT using Pause (SpaceBar), since I didn't know you could.....

That you could fire the gunblade when attacking with Squall in Final Fantasy 8. Was a couple discs in before I realized that.

- Use magic skills in Puzzle Quest

- Pause in Jade Empire

- Hold Shift in many ARPG's to show names of dropped items.

never noticing the flashing-signal-icon-thing in Just Cause 2 was a real pain .. especially when trying to get a 100% completion for a villiage/base/etc

LOL.... I did pretty good, but I spent a WEEK trying to kill that boss in the cave and couldn't... I kept thinking "why the hell is this game so darn hard"... Then a friend told me he killed the boss first go.... so I made him come over and show me, the first time he pressed the spacebar I was like "God I'm dumb",....hahahahahahahaa
