Anyone else feel sucker punched by CnC4 and SupComm II?
I try not to be picky, but c'mon!
I know not every game can be a step forward-heck CnC3 was nothing new- but both of these games were such slaps in the face of their respective franchises.

I was really hoping that 2010 was going to be a great year for RTS like the end of '06 into '07 was.
But now there's really only one title left to redeem this year.

Yes, Supreme Commander II was pretty disappointing. The graphics were nice, but they overhauled everything I liked about the first game. However, if they simply updated the graphics and nothing more, I'm sure a lot of people would have complained.

It was more fun than Sup Com 1, because they fixed its major flaw, it was boring, extremely, but as an RTS yes it was a letdown but it's fun, not the case with C&C 4 though. But who cares? we got DoW 2 CR which was awesome, people seem to enjoy Napoleon a lot more than Empire (though didn't get it yet, can't trust anything after the unplayable Empire), Sins Diplomacy. Yeah it's sad we had quite a few extremely good RTS released this year...you can't expect all of them to be good but come on how many AAA titles do you think anyone would be able to release in less than half an year when they know that Starcraft 2 will be release and it will "steal" their sales if they release them too soon or too late, or in general? There's also the Tropico 3 expansion which isn't exactly strategy but it's there. 4 great games and one fun (Sup Com 2) in 5 months is bad? if that is bad then I hope it goes worse like 8 great games and 2 fun games in 5 months.

Yeah the expansions fared well, especially Chaos Rising. SupCom 2 was still an entertaining game and I prefer the smaller maps/shorter MP games, the interface was clean/units were more responsive than the 1st, the presentation is glossy and the SP (or extended tutorial) was better paced compared to the grind in the 1st SupCom--but that is not saying much. It is by no means a bad game, it is just a different one, where SupCom 2 could probably co-exist with the 1st SupCom. Its not as great as what SupCom + FA set out in terms of unit diversity, scale and the way the tug-o-war economy worked... supcom 1 still could've used what SupCom 2 offered.

How is Chaos Rising good? I've been picking at Dawn of War II for a long time. Haven't finished the SP campaign - it's so different and less interesting than DOW I. I don't care for multiplayer.

If you didn't like DoW 2 then it's not a game for you. It's just as DoW 2 only harder with more action.

I enjoyed both games but I find DoW 2 a lot better than 1.

napoleaon total war and chaos rising are the good ones so far. Starcraft 2 should make up for everything else.

Yeah, not much good so far. I was so disappointed with SupCom2. Supreme Commander is still one of my favourite RTS games, it's a real shame that GPG decided to dumb it down so much and completely ruin the economy, turning it into a spam-fest. CnC4 was also a minor disappointment, but I didn't really ever expect that to be good. If you can describe a game as "Kinda like DoW2 but not as good" then you've lost my interest completely. Hell, if describe as "Kinda like DoW2" then i'd probably lose interest.

DOW II is good game-heck I whipped though it in 2 days on VH setting- but it doesn't seem like an RTS in my eyes, but more like squad based dungeon crawler. Sins is a great game indeed, but Trinity is pretty much just an expansion pack, adding the the diplo tech tree complemented with new scenarios and victory option. Those of you saying that sup comm 2 is as good as or better than the 1st have got to be kidding. Supp Comm wasn't perfect, but it was doing something different and it was great for it. But like I've seen with many niche games, once it got celebrity for being different, they thought they could make more money by catering to the lowest common denominator gamer, ie. shaving away what made it different until it's 'streamlined' and looks more like the rest. They are forgetting that this mean market is more saturated. There were many rough edges that needed to be sanded down and polished on the first model, instead they hacked away at it with an axe then sandblasted it.

Pretty sure Starcraft 2 doesn't need any RTS friends to help it make this a great RTS year. Been playing the beta since it came out and it is awesome. Have hope.

Civilization is not RTS, but yes the overall "Strategy" genre should be fine this year.

NEVER call a game good before it hits a box.. i believe stalker clear sky prooved to us this as did both HL2 episodes :P games can look amazing on paper. the previews can be great heck the beta can be outstanding BUT the released final product can be a blunder.

chaos rising is an AMAZING singleplayer experience yes its not a true rts but what it delievers is so good it might as well be a #1 meal with a side order of perfection and a coke. another game to watch is ruse and of course elemental which also has the potential to do great things.

and sup commander 2 wasnt that bad it was.. mediocre at best.

and C&C4 had a few memorable momments but it wasnt great i agree. clearly phoned that one in.

Gotta note that Civ V is turn based, but nonetheless, those are my top two anticipated games this year :D

@ionusX Starcraft 2 isn't good on paper ;) it's really good and we can say that for sure because 1 - it's really good and 2 - lots of people got in the beta and even die hard fans of SC are not disappointed. Expecting a game to be good is one thing, knowing/experiencing a good game is another.

I would rather forget RUSE. In fact, I would rather surgically remove every little detail about it from my mind. Every single moment I played of it. As you may have guessed, I have no faith in that game being any good when it comes out.

Chaos Rising was good fun, and Supreme Commander 2 is by no means a bad game. It may be radiclaly different from the first (much to my dismay), but overall the gameplay was solid and fun. Plus I was also finally able to get my brother into SupCom, so maybe someday he'll work his way up to FA.

Napolean was Kingdoms for E;TW with a $40 price tag slapped on it. Diplomacy for Sins added some cool elements, but nothing essential (IMO).

I've gotta say I'm a bit surprised, I would've expected more RTS games with 2010 release dates to push out well in advance of Starcraft 2.

No one played The Settlers 7 yet? Its getting average-good reviews. You shoukd try it if youre a RTS fan.

Ive played the RUSE beta for 10 hour and it is really shaping up nicely, the multiplayer was alot of fun.

I hope Supcom 2, Dow:CR and Total War: Napoleon comes to Green man gaming soon so I can play them!

Settlers 7 is more city management. Its ok, but it's not my favorite entry in the series. No grand maps, and the most annoy attempt at anti-piracy I've ever come across bring it down several notches in my book.

All of them are Steam exclusives (Steamworks games), won't happen.
