are there any promising Real Time Strategy games under development right now? preferably more stratetic ala Empire Earth/Age of Empires then tactical, but really anything at this point would be great. The last great ones i got were Battle For Middle Earth 2 and Company Of Heroes (and i know I'm a freak for not liking starcraft 1/2)

C&C 5 apparently. That guy who made Supreme Commander was making a fantasy RTS last I checked.

I like CoH and exp, WiC, C&C TW but not what comes after, also like Starcraft series, Shogun, AoE so I like all of the game settings but the game needs to be good.

Fantasy, but I'm mostly a TBS/city building simulator kind of person, for RTSs I have no preference, not even for TBSs really, I play what is good, and most of the time, Sci-Fi and modern era is dominant in RTSs. As for strategy games in general, I'm looking forward to the next Red Alert, Heroes VI, Anno 2070, Tropico 4, and Heart of the Swarm.

Hard to decide... I love everything medieval. I love RTS games like Stronghold and AOE 2. Love building huge keeps surrounded by walls with archers everywhere. I use to love Warcraft 2, but Warcraft is more fantasy. I never got into WC3. C&C was one of the first games I owned. I got all the follow ups and all the Red Alert's until crappy EA took over. That series is probably my favourite out of any RTS. The timeline changes a lot but it stays awesome. Goes from 1950s with classic tanks, infantry, and nukes. Then it goes all futuristic after Tib Sun.

Relic is announceing a new RTS this summer, after the CoHO 'experiment' people are speculating it will be Company of Heroes 2.

Other than that, a new Total War is confirmed to be in development, and of course SC: Heart of the Swarm.

Pretty much Agree. I really like CoH, Warcraft (2 and 3), Starcraft (1 and 2), WiC, Dawn of War, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, and probably a shocker but Halo Wars (then again this is coming from someone who genuinely liked Starcraft 64). I will honestly play any type of RTS but my favorite ones are Blizzards and it has nothing to do necessarily with the game setting, story, or general goodness. It is just that are the only ones with good editors.

All I really know of RTSish wise is just the Starcraft expansions, a new Total War game, and the new C&C that will be coming out.

I don't really have a particular setting I like. My favorite RTS are AOE original, Company of heroess, Rise of Nations. I also like Napoleon the most for multiplayer. I was pretty disapointed in Shogun. It felt really watered down tactically compared to Napoleon.

Don't really like Starcraft, it just seems like it's to much about resource hoarding and I kind of felt like it copied AOE in a futuristic setting. Though admittedly I haven't played it much. I bought the original a couple months before the second came out, and I didn't like it at all.

Hopefully there are some good looking RTS announced at E3. there aren't many good looking ones I can think of right now.

I would say nothing before WW2 I like WW2 and beyond. After WW2 like a Vietnam RTS would be great, Modern to near Future is my favorite, Sci-fi/futuristic I like more than WW2... so it would be in order from like the most to like the least. 1.Modern to near future (which I don't even see an option for) 2.Sci-fi/futuristic 3.WWII I don't really care for fantasy or old historical rts (before WW2) but I would play a fanstay rts before I would a historical one more than likely.

Yes it does I am excited, this will actually be the first RTS set in Vietnam I have got to play, (and I have been waiting a while) hope it comes out, and hope it plays decent!

There's a cool looking game called Dawn of Fantasy coming out. I was really excited about it, but then I found out they're calling it an MMO. If this means it's pay to play and there's no skirmish mode, then I am no longer excited.

iirc there was a Platoon (based off the movie) RTS that was supposed to be pretty decent; no building I think, just squad-based RTS

I would say it is doubtful, but that is just because I don't know any mmorts that is pay to play. And what mmorts really means is that you either have a persistent commander, there is a persistent map, or both. And all that means is that it is the standard skirmish game play, but that each match effects a world map or levels your commander.

If it isn't like that, which every mmorts has ben thus far if i'm not mistaken, then I am almost not sure if it would even been an mmorts.

Or your persistent city as in Age of Empires Online.

They way they have been going with the DoW II games I doubt it will be larger scale. I thought the scale of CoH was just right given the amount of micro management needed for each unit.

I wouldn't be surprised if its in a different time period though.

Honestly, if it was Company of Heroes 2, I'd divorce my wife, sell my car, buy food and drink for months, and become a hermit.
