Are there any games where you can build a base and army to attack the other team, and then just click on one of your troops or tank or plane or etc and you can be in the game. Like for example, red alert, if you could build an base and army, and be able to click on a soldier, and become him in the game, playing thirdperson or first person or etc... does anybody know any PC Games like this?

There is no game like this, but I saw on moddb an indie game that is still in development that is just like thay and frankly it looks better than CoH (not graphically) but the animations need a lot of work and you can select soldiers and play with the in first person view, but sorry can't remember the name :( but I will look for it.

There arent any that i know of, but as said i heard of a game like that being made. It looks REALLY cool, being able to give the troops orders than become a soldier and carry them out.

Here it is, Iron Grip: Warlord, but there must be another one because this one doesn't have a gameplay trailer, that one had.

There are none that I know of where you can take control of your unit like that. It's funny, I've actually thought of that as a cool element, myself. Savage 1 and 2 are somewhat similar to what you want, though, in that it's a RTS/TP/FPS game, but I don't think it's quite like what you're saying.

The only thing that's at all similar to this are the battlezone games (1 and 2). While you don't take control of units, you ARE an actual unit in the game. You're a guy in a vehicle and you give out base building orders and if your vehicle is destroyed you can ask for one of your units to come pick you up and lend you their vehicle.

you could also snipe in that game and exit your vehicle as you pleased. Check it out, it's about 10 years old now.

there are lots of older games that did it. as mentioned, battlezone did something very similar - in 2, you're a commander unit that can send orders to build the base and units, but can also run around on foot and hijack/jump into other vehicles. the game was a lot of fun on LAN play with my friends. another game that did it was uprising - again, pretty old. the dungeon keeper games also did EXACTLY that - you were an omnipotent hand controlling the dungeon construction, and could possess individual units to do combat or even do construction. nothing really new/recent afaik, though..

About a year ago I heard about a FPS game where you could go to an RTS view to command your soldiers around but you could also switch to FPS view and then it would play as a regular FPS game. I can't remember the name of the game, though. It's not released yet, I think.

It's a pretty neat idea, but wouldn't It make that soldier like 10x more effective than normal?

There is a game that has been in development for some time called Field Ops that attempts to do exactly that. Here's a link if you wanna check it out. It's modern sci-fi IIRC.

Yes, there is a game like this. Dogs of War is like this. It's actually a fun game, even though it got crappy reviews.

Battlezone 1 and 2. Well you its FPS/Strategy/Simulator I guess. You always in FPS mode unless you use a bunker. Anyways.

Rise and Fall civilizations at war. You are able to take control of a hero unit I think and start fighting.

These games were mentioned above. But there is a game called Machines (1999) got 6.5 from GS while user score is 8.4 on GS.. In machines you could take a control of a unit and run around and kill your opponent. That was you could kill more than your AI controlled unit.

Those 3 games is all I know. I think there should be more gamesl ike Battlezone 2.

The first thing I thought of was RISE AND FALL: Civilizations at War which matches your description almost exactly. I only played the demo, but thought it had a lot of potential. Now granted, I don't know if classical warefare was what your were referring as opposed to say WWII or modern. The demo had you play Cleopatra, but other heros include Achilles, Alexander and one other. You play the game in the more traditional top down manner of RTS games with base building and all, but can drilldown to the hero in a 3rd or 1st person view. leveraging the unique powers that the have to wipe out hordes of enemies. If I recall, your hero advances in strength kinda like and RPG. So this game is definitely a hybrid of sorts that I really haven't seen before. I actually meant to get the game but official reviews were somewhat lukewarm. However, after more the two years on the market it appears that user reviews are fairly strong. I may still get this game at some point.

On another note, Desperados 2: Cooper's Revenge is a sequel to the awesome Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive. Desperados is a western 'commandos" style squad-based RTS. While there is no base building, there is a top down strategy mode. However, this is the first and only game of this style that let's you play any member in your squad in a quasi 3rd/1st person mode. Both games are worth playing, although the sequel doesn't quite match the greatness of the original.

I have a feeling we will eventual see more games like Rise and Fall, regardless of how successful or unsuccessful it was. Recent RTS games have often focused on hero characers or RPG characters that provide certain effects on your game. However, you weren't able to play that character in another mode. Age of Mythology immediately comes to mind.

Although there is no base building involved, in Illusion Softworks' Hidden and Dangerous series you can issue orders to your squad RTS style, take control of each soldier in third person or first person view. It's quite fun once you figure it out. I would try the sequel and not the original H&D because that game has a lot of bugs

Battlezone II was exactly like that.. there are others as well. You play in a 3D RTS game world, you can also play from a FPS perspective as any unit. So you can build your bases, resources etc then when attacking you can go to FPS to get really close to the action and actually have an influence on the battle.

I picked the game up really cheap (Aus$19.95) and that was quite a few years ago now. There are other games that were similar, none of them seemed to do too well though. Very under rated game.

Another awesome game is Dungeon Keeper. Another oldie but still awesome. There is also a sequel, but i havn't played it.

You guys are forgetting another exelent title, Hostile Waters: Antheus rising.

Very nice RTS, with vehicle combat. Though this game is from 2001 i think, it looks good on my 24" monitor with 1920 x 1200 resolution.

I am very interested if anyone have recomendations for similar, more modern games.

And that excellent title is also based off of a late 1980s Amiga/Atari ST/DOS/ZX Spectrum/C64 game called Carrier Command, to some extent. Anyway, since several people brought up Dungeon Keeper, I don't have to. It was one of the few RTSs I liked BECAUSE you could directly control units at will to make them much more effective than the standard AI would allow them to be. Also, there's Sacrifice. No, you don't have a "god view" and can't just possess any unit you please, but you do have a direct presence on the battlefield as a powerful wizard who can possibly turn the tide of battle. (Sort of like Activision's Battlezone games without the command bunker, only those are sci-fi and mostly involve hovertank combat.) Also, the game has a great sense of humor. (Case in point: Bovine Intervention.)

Natural Selection and Savage 1/2.

However there are multiple players, one commander and you get to boss around real guys.
