I installedmy old copies of the originalAge of Empiresand Rise of Nationstoday. The sprite graphics in these games hold upvery well (especially Rise of Nations) unlike 3D games. I installed Age of Mythology and it looks pretty bad.

Anyone know of any upcoming RTSs that use sprites? I hope in the future there is a shift back to that style. The only problem with those old games is they run at low resolutions.

I don't think there will be new rts with 2D sprites by "major developer" .. maybe some uber military simulation like tac-ops or some fan made harpoon style.. on the other hand these are usually better then their commercial counterpart...

Chick:Rise of Legends was your own engine, right?

Reynolds: Yep.

Chick: Did that make life really hard? It was your first 3-D game, too, wasn't it?

Reynolds: Well, the funny little-known thing was the
Rise of Nations was 3-D, too, but we just fixed the camera and the buildings. I always thought it was funny that people thought it was a 2-D game. We did almost all the work of a 3-D engine. So, in some ways it was the frustration of being constantly told we were a 2-D game that made us go, "Okay, maybe we need to do a game that shows what this engine can actually do." Of course, the funny thing is that the very next thing for which the Rise of Legends engine was used was Catan for Xbox Live Arcade. That's the Rise of Legends engine. And actually, porting that to the 360 helped us a lot in landing the RPG contract.

:P
