The RTX 4090 is Nvidia's new flagship GPU, shipping with 24GB of GDDR6X memory, 76 billion transistors, and 16,384 CUDA cores. Nvidia claims that it will be able to deliver framerates higher than 100fps when gaming at 4K, all while consuming the same 450W that the RTX 3090 Ti did. Using DLSS 3, the latest version of Nvidia's deep-learning super sampling technique, Nvidia says that the RTX 4090 sees four times more performance than the RTX 3090 Ti using DLSS 2. The RTX 4090 starts at $1599 and launches on October 12.

The RTX 4080 is launching in two different configurations. The first features 16GB of GDDR6X memory, 76 RT cores, and 9,728 CUDA cores, while the second features 12GB of GDDR6X memory, 60 RT, and 7,680 CUDA. The 12GB version also has slower memory, with a 21Gbps throughput over a 192-bit bus, as opposed to the 16GB version's 22Gbps throughput and 256-bit bus. Nvidia claims that the RTX 4080 16GB is up to three times faster than the previous RTX 3080 Ti when using DLSS 3, while the RTX 4080 12GB can outpace the RTX 3090 Ti with lower power consumption while also utilizing DLSS 3. The RTX 4080 16GB starts at $1199, while the 12GB version starts at $899. Both will launch sometime in November.

God damn. I want to upgrade, but I don't want to shell out 1199$ for replacing the 3080 :(

4080 12GB is basically a 4070. They are just trying to fool people into not realizing they are paying $900 for a XX70 series card and $1200 for a XX80 card. Very shady stuff from Nvidia. Here is how it really breaks down with the launch MSRPs...

3070 = $499

4070 = $899 (80% inflation)

3080 = $699

4080 = $1199 (71.5% inflation)

@BassMan: Yeah. Like if I buy one I will get the 4080 16GB version. But it cost more than a mid end gaming computer a few generations back.

@horgen: There is a large gap in specs between the 4080 and 4090. I would be inclined to go for the 4090 at that point. The '4080' cards are way overpriced for their tiers. Obviously the 4090 is crazy expensive, but it is the enthusiast/prosumer option. XX80 and XX70 class cards should not be priced anywhere close to $1199 and $899. That is ridiculous. I would avoid those cards altogether until they drop in price from AMD pressure or after Nvidia sells out of 3000 series.

The price drops will come as the majority of the demographic for those tiers will not pay those prices. The pandemic is pretty much over, the market is flooded with cards now, miners are not buying the new ones, and there is no chip shortage. Just pure greed and price gouging by Nvidia. Let's see what AMD brings with both performance and pricing...

Your profile shows a 1200W PSU and a dual GPU setup. I fail to see how power draw is a concern based on that setup.

Prices suck. Won’t buy one unless my 2080 craps out, which is doubtful. Wasnt’t planning on getting one so don’t really care.

I hope these prices will go down, but I doubt it. Cooling psu wise the 4090 isn’t an issue, but I am guessing a waterblock on it will cost closer to 150-200$ here than the standard 100-120$. The whole lineup is overpriced imo.

There are cheaper options available to PC gamers. Also, comparing the console performance to these cards is not an apples to apples comparison. It is not even an apples to oranges comparison. It is more like comparing apples to a world-class buffet. LOL

What is your budget limit? I mean what price are you willingly to build a PC? For any future builders, I always recommend $700 to $1,000. You don't need the state-of-the-art GPU, just a nice comfy settings and your good to go.

This isn't me saying consoles are poor as both Xbox Series X & PS5 are formidable consoles more than ever but PC still the best way to go. PC is a high-risk rewards and at the end of the day, it is worth it.

Edit: Otherwise, Steam Deck isn't a bad option you know.

I did, but want to know what AMD did with their 6000 series? just a month before 7000 series coming out they're selling their current line for up to 30% cheaper - for example RX6900 XT for 700$ instead of 1000$

Then it might be worth to get a 30XX card soon. A 3080ti still costs around 1500 bucks where I live. Way too much for a card, lol.

Maybe it's just me but Nvidia's 3000 series presentation was tremendous and had built up hype meeting PC gamers' expectations and hardly any of their BS practice was none existence. But all of a sudden with 4000 series announcement, it felt like Jensen wasn't himself and there was really a lack of hype surrounding the 4000 announcements. Making 12GB 4080 is a mistake and the reason why is because they knew they can't overcharge 4070 price to $899.

I'm gonna stay with my 3070 Ti for a while and focus on going DDR5 either with Raptor Lake or the new Ryzen 7950.

@davillain: Why are you looking to upgrade your CPU and get DDR5? You have a 5900X which is already very good. 7950X is only going to be worthwhile if you can take advantage of it for work/productivity stuff.

@BassMan: No doubt my 5900X is still great and all. I saw few benchmarks on DDR5 and wanted to get into the upgrade soon and plus, I was looking into giving my 5900X to my daughter anyway as she's due for a CPU upgrade so not like I'm wasting a good CPU when I can just give it to my kid. Of course, I'm planning to do so in late 2023.

BTW, you should get the 3D V-Cache version in 2023 after.

yea zen 4 3d is the only worth while upgrade zen3 to zen 4 is a meh upgrade

I'll be keeping an eye on 3D zen 4 since that was teased it's coming.

The 16GB 4080 is not even a 4080, it's more like a 4070Ti, while the 12GB is 4060Ti at best. The spec gap between the 4090 and both of the 4080s is just too big.

@davillain: truth is I don't know enough about the pc. I have a really good laptop but I can't get into it. No matter what I do I can't get past pass code screen.

Depends on your resolution, 1440p you will see some improvement, 4k not much.

Resolution is the big one and how high your refresh rate is. That being said, the Ryzen 5900X is already quite a bit better than the 3900X and the 7900X will be more so.

Again, I would wait for the 7900X3D in 2023 before upgrading.

@BassMan: 3440*1440. So not 4K but more than regular 1440. Got a monitor that supports at least 120Hz, do think it was 144Hz.

About the video. Bigger difference than I thought between 5900X and 3900X. I am in no rush to upgrade the cpu, ram and mobo. What are the anticipated benefits with the 3D version?

@horgen: It uses 3D V Cache to alleviate CPU bottlenecks. You won't notice the benefit on every game, but games that rely heavily on the cache, get a nice boost.

The games I care about can still run on maxed or high graphics on my 1080. Still see no reason to upgrade. Not replacing hardware until my graphics card busts at this rate.

Pretty much my case as well.. However I have been running folding at home for the last... 6 years now I think.
