This thing still has over half a year till release right? History has taught me not to give any credence to hardware benchmarks that come out less than a month before the hardware is supposed to be released.

well since you don't have a source then I won't believe it BUT i won't be suprised at ALL if its true....historically with generation jumps the flagship is about 10-15% stronger than the previous flagship card. Nvidia DID say they're offering a card for $650...the gtx 680 and I don't doubt that it will be faster than the 7970, but it seems to me that nvidia is just trying to release a card thats the best on the market without really thinking too much about the price tag. Im sure AMD could release a card at that price that is SIMILAR in performance, but they're not overly concerned with that....the gtx 680 is only going to target the 0.01% market of discrete video card sales. The real battle will be at the $400 and below price tag. Thats where the 7970 will sit at come April when nvidia releases their 6xx series....will nvidia be able to handle the heat is the question... Either way it doesn't look like nvidia will be making much of a profit this time around.

Is that $650 price tag confirmed? Because if so the prices for GPUs this gen are absurd. It used to be $600+ was dual GPU territory, but now it's apparently the standard price for a single flagship GPU.

Sourceless results (that don't even include comparative data from an already-released competitor despite stating a ~10% performance difference between the two) for an unspecified GPU?

SOUNDS LEGIT.

hmm im not too sure but I saw someone post that info a while back. Prices are high right now since AMD doesn't have any competition from nvidia, but once the 6xx series drops, AMD will probably drop prices and nvidia will follow up and also drop prices (maybe a month or two down the line)

Sounds about right. Im not really expecting these new cards to be much faster than the 7000 series unless Nvidia does something crazy.

yes but this is also rumor alert hour.. im not listing a source for reasons of it smelling of fish at face value nevermind me sourcing it..

if you would like to see the results someone hastily drafted up using what appears to be either bad paintshop pro or good ms paint work.. i happily will

Well guys I have been following IonysX for a while now, from his AMD bulldozer posts to his leave induced by Intel.

I take whatever he says more seriously than anyone else.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia released a GPU 10% weaker than the 7970, I'm actually expecting it. It's been this way since the 5850, back then AMD had 2 GPU's topping Nvidia's best GPU. Not something that happens everyday.

I've been wishing for some major change like with the introduction of the 8800GTX. But I doubt we will see that since there doesn't seem to be any new tech advancements comparable to the introduction of unified shaders.

I've had this on my mind for a while, I feel like they could give us more, but don't out of fear of hitting a wall.

Link to the article that this info MAY have come from.

The funny thing is i remember reading a few months ago that the GTX 680 was only going to have like 1024 Stream processors. this small upgrade if true makes me happy.

I also saw alot of people saying that Nvidia is completely skipping 6xx and going straight to 7xx for the name/number although i never figured out where that rumor came from.

Usually the largest changes are right after the new consoles come out.

How is that a small upgrade if the current 580 has 512?
