That wouldn't really be surprising. A next gen card is typically better than 2 older SLI cards, just like a single 8800GTX outperforms a 7950 GX2

Well Gog's reply kinda screwed up to who I was responding to there, which was MrPower1

But anyway, the 8X00's large performance jump was becuase of a completely redesigned architechture (sorry I can't spell :P); so I would guess that the 9X00 won't have as large of a jump.

EDIT: I'm just speculating here of course. But you can't prove a statement like that without benchmarks :S.

A 7950 GX2 was also hampered by having 2 cards run through one bus, being very hot...and not having enough power....2 cards with only one power input!

I had a GX2 and now have a GTX...as I only have one PCIx16 slot I'm kinda limited.

Maybe they will be much faster....who knows?

I just know they aren't any games that will tax even one GTX much less two...

I'll wait until my card can't max the game anymore before even thinking about buying a new one...

2x8800GTX in SLI is with ~30% faster than 1x8800GTX. So 9800 can be better with more than 30% than 8800GTX
