For everybody having issues with Crysis using a 8800GTS card run Crysis in DX 9 mode instead of 10. To do so right click the demo icon, and select DX 9. Game runs smooth and looks amazing everything is set onhigh, except the shadows which i put on medium.

Before i made the switch to DX 9 crysis was almost unplayable on high using DX 10. Now i can finally enjoy the game with immersive graphics. It makes me wonder how a game made for DX 10 is runs better on DX 9.

What is post processing in crysis??? I run the game one all very high except for that setting which i set to high and at 1680 x 1050 res with 2x AA. It runs good and looks GREAT, but what does post processing setting do. When i set that to very high i take a huge hit in frames per second.

I didn't get much of a boost with DX10 off. I have 1024x768 with all medium except physics and shader quality on very high (DX10 rock textures w/depth). I wish I could atleast run at 1280x1024 with my current settings. I didn't expect to have to drop my resolution for a few more months with a G8 series card =/ at least I get 40FPS with my current settings and it never drops below 20fps. Still looks great, but I did expect more from all the promises that EA made for Crytek about "A E6600 and 8800GTS 640mb can run this game on very high.' I guess if you stared at a wall, but even maxed with my GPU it didn't get about 15fps once even when It was pretty much the back of a car...

Post Processing on low causes shadows to not be cast on other objects (looks like crap). For high+ I can't say what it does.

Are you serious..I just have a superclocked 8800GTX and i can run all very high except post processing which i run at high with AA at 2x and at 1680 x 1050 res. I would think an 8800 gts would be that much less powerful than an 8800 gtx?

Its really strange that people are having so many problems. I have a 4200+ X2 (OCed to 2.6Ghz), X1900GT (OCed to 580MHz), and 1 GIG of RAM. I am playing in 1280x1024 and I'm getting no lower than 31 now measured with FRAPS. I have all settings on High except Shadows and Shaders which I have on Low. I have AA set at x2. Oh and I have Audio on Medium.

The game runs so well and really looks good. I'm using XP of course.

It only has 320mb of memory so textures hit it hard. It also has poor performance in most DX10 games (World In Conflict, Lost Planet) Ill probably get the 8800GT when it comes out. The GTS is a peice of crap as far as I'm concerned.

It looks pretty good to me, really only the grass looks weird close up. If I turn shadows to medium I still get now less than 22 which is still very playable.

I had to drop the resolutions also if I didn't want to change any setting from high with a Q6600 and 8800GTS. Maybe the demo isn't optimized for higher resolutions 1920x1200.When they said you can play on very high with an 8800GTS they didn't say what resolution so that is the catch.

They said 1280x1024, but they also said 640mb card so... I got owned. I still want to play 1280x1024 because the last time I touched 1024x768 was playing BF2 on my 6600GT and its so hard to shoot people from a distance.

Yeah, I have the same specs as you. Except, I have a 4200+ and more HDD space and a 640MB instead of 320MB. The DX10 version just crashes all the time and I can never play it, it seems like all DX10 games never work for me (BioShock and Company of Heroes). What resolution are you playing at?

Oh my bad, I get 22 with shadows on medium and no AA. When I did shadows on medium and AA x2 it just killed it!! Like 4 FPS! And yeah the game does look about a million times better with shadows on medium compared to low which is really off. Shadows seem to be the killer of this game. That and AA. Most of the other settings don't seem to make that much of a difference in performance.

Im playing at 1680 X 1050, i absolutely hated the game until it started running smoothly, now i can aim accurately, switch nano suit powers faster, and the visuals makethe game so much more immersive. still short on story and gameplay though.

i had a crash in dx10 vista64... dx9 64bit and 32bit seems to be ok. as well as dx10 32bit. with the new 169.01 drivers. 8800gtx. older drivers work for dx10 v64 though.

very strange, i noticed that with the new drivers even the COD 4 Demo runs better. And after i installed the drivers Vista-32 said that asolution had been found for a problem. Maybe the old driver was what was causing my pc to crash, physical memory dump, BSOD. anyways now i feel my investment in a graphics card was worth it. i can't get over pc resolutions. amazing!

I'll try this later, personally the demo is frustraiting for me. I ran it so/so until I updated my drivers to the 169.01's or whatever that were made spacifically for crysis... and now everything but the mouse freezes up on me. Oh well, I can wait for release to play.... what I did see was awesome.

The level of physics is just amazing, actually better than any ageia physics I've seen to date... sooo glad I didn't cave and buy a physx card.

I don't know why this happens, my guess is bad optimization for DX 10 on 8800GTS. Crytek probably optimized DX10 for ppl running 8800 GTX or higher, and expect everyone cheap enough to buy an 8800GTS is too cheap to buy vista, so would no really use DX10. hopefully this is just an issue with the demo. Goodoptimization requires maximunplayability at all levels. I hate to say it but the demo didn't really blow me away.

I did not see any difference in performance between the two. The TC has a 320MB so cannot expect the best performance at higher resolutions. Looking at these benchmarks you can see how the game performs and it's not good. http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=470&type=expert&pid=1 I am waiting for Gamespot.
